Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
I watched the Jets game Sun. Justin Fields is a mess. He looked like almost a can't miss prospect and it just hasn't worked out. They need to get a competent QB that can complete basic passes. And from the looks of it I really don't see a blue chip QB coming out in 2026.
Go get one of the better backups like Mariota to at least be competent at that position.
IMO , Fields has been Carred! |
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
After this week, teams will have played 8 or 9 games. As enter the midway point next week; the hot seat is warm to hot for some teams.
Titans- Already fired their coach and it's unlikely the interim coach, Mccoy gets the permanent gig. Cards- Gannon probably makes it the whole season but is gone in January. Only 2 wins so far. Falcons- They have underperformed. Instead of challenging for the division, they are likely to have a losing season in Pennix's first year as a starter. Cousins is likely done. He did nothing while subbing. Raheem Morris likely gets the ax. Only 3 wins. Panthers- Canales has them currently at .500 with a 4-4 record. They are likely to finish anywhere from 6-8 wins. Is that enough improvement for Tepper? You never know with him. Canales shouldn't feel safe. Giants- Only at 2 wins but it looks like they found their franchise QB in Dart. Daboll unless he really piles on some wins in the 2nd half; is going to be fired at the end of the year. Raiders- Carroll is 2-5. He only signed a three year deal. I guess he comes back but does Brady trust Carroll to develop the QB they are surely drafting next year? Brady will heavily influence this as to whether Carroll is one and done. They really whiffed on Geno Smith. Browns- Stefanski has only 2 winning seasons in 6. He went to the playoffs in 2020 and 2023 and won coach of the year those years. The disaster at QB isn't his fault but it's time for him and the Browns to part ways. Currently, at 2-6. Gabriel likely isn't a starting QB. Does Sanders even play this year, since you know Stefanski really doesn't care for the guy. Browns also need to just take the Watson cap pain next year and cut him. Browns has their pick a Top 5 pick most likely and the Jags picks and can find their future QB in the next draft. Jets- Glenn is 1-7. He finally won a game. I still think he will be one and done but Johnson may give him another year; especially since Jets can draft yet another QB. Dolphins- Mcdaniel probably doesn't get fire in season but he's not coming back next year. If those above teams have an opening, other than the Falcons; they aren't really that attractive of an opening and likely will do this again in 2-4 years. These next 3 teams could have openings, depending on how they fare. Steelers- Their expensive defense sucks. Rodgers is doing enough but the defense isn't good. They are likely to finish 9-8 and miss the playoffs. That would be 19 winning seasons for Tomlin but Rooney may have had enough decide it's time for a change in Steelerland. Ravens- Currently 3-5 but they have a favorable schedule and likely will steal the division from the Steelers. For them, if they make playoffs; it's what they do in the playoffs. Harbaugh is in 18th season. Probably, making the playoffs after his poor start; saves his job. Though you never know, after what should be another playoff disappointment. Bills- They face their playoff nemesis the Chiefs tomorrow. For the Bills, the expectations is a Superbowl appearance at least. Failure to do that, especially if they lose in the playoffs to the Chiefs again; Mcdermott might be dismissed. There's one more team that should have an opening, Bengals. Zac Taylor will have the QB excuse but it's his poor defense that should get him fired. Mike Brown is too cheap to fire him so I don't expect the Bengals to have an opening. |

Giants fired Daboll.

It seems like they have found their QB in Dart, the next hire can make or break Dart so it will be interesting to see what they do. |

I heard Vinny Cerrato is interested in a front office job maybe we can send him the Giants way
OMG -- I just had an image in my mind about the intro press conference with Meyer and Cerrato. Maybe we can sprinkle in Rivera as a special draft consultant. And maybe the bingo card caller as the OC (I can't even remember the guy's name). [Edit: it was killing me that I couldn't remember -- it was Sherman Lewis, who Zorn called up briefly to call the offense.] C'mon Mara -- go from bad to worse, baby! |
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Jon Gruden to the Giants? What about Belichick? Belichick back to NY after all these years. He'd take that job in 2 seconds. I wouldn't be surprised if they've already been in contact. They have some nice pieces. The tabloids would be going wild w/ all the GF drama.

Bill is a bust at UNC. Why they hired him is beyond me. If he doesn’t just walk away after their last game; he’ll be fired. UNC knows he will try to land one of the nfl jobs. This year he might actually get a chance. The Giants seem like an obvious place but other teams could also. Jets decide Glenn is one and done; he could go there and actually coach there this time. Raiders could hire him, if they decide Carroll is one and done. Tom and Bill reunited. Maybe Bill wins again with Tom being one if his bosses. Falcons. Falcons are too inconsistent. Good one week then bad the next. Blank may clean house this time and let Bill Run things. Bill actually might have a shot this year. |
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
From PFT:
https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/with-two-coaches-out-so-far-how-many-more-will-follow >>>Dolphins: With G.M. Chris Grier gone, the question of whether coach Mike McDaniel will stay hovers over everything the team does. Whether and to what extent the Dolphins can win enough games down the stretch will make it easier to give McDaniel and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa another year, especially since the Dolphins owe Tua $54 million fully guaranteed in 2026. But the next G.M. may want to hire a new coach, sooner or later. Jets: Will Aaron Glenn be one and done? That’s the question as the season continues. And he has done himself few favors in his handling of the media. Which is one of the most important functions for any head coach, especially in New York. Bills: The prime of quarterback Josh Allen is being squandered. It’s unclear whether it’s an issue of coaching (which points to Sean McDermott) or talent (which points to G.M. Brandon Beane). The overriding question is whether owner Terry Pegula is content to continue to run it back, year after year. If the Bills don’t win the division, and if they make a quick exit from the playoffs, the making of changes will become Pegula’s prerogative. Nothing can be ruled out, at this point. Steelers: Many believe the Steelers will never fire Tomlin, if only to continue their unique three-coaches-since-1969 hairdo. But if they don’t make the playoffs in 2025 after the very uncharacteristic moves made to upgrade the roster, the winds of change could start blowing through the confluence. It could make Tomlin think about walking away. It also could make owner Art Rooney II inclined to listen to other teams that may want to swing a de facto trade for a coach who has still never had a losing season. Bengals: Someone, in theory, bears accountability for the complete disintegration of the defense. One big factor will relate to whether Zac Taylor is owed any money in 2026. Owner Mike Brown does not like to pay coaches to not work for the Bengals. Ravens: The turnaround is underway. Regardless of how it turns out, there have been scattered times over the past 15 years when it has felt like a renewal of vows was needed, in both directions. Will the Ravens decide a fresh start is needed? Will John Harbaugh become attracted to another job, possibly at Penn State or some other college? Browns: Is G.M. Andrew Berry safe? Is coach Kevin Stefanski — a two-time coach of the year winner — safe? Chief strategy officer Paul DePodesta has already gone home to baseball, possibly because he sensed the door was about to hit him where the Splendid Splinter split him. Still, never overlook the influence of ownership. Every misguided personnel decision bears the fingerprints of Jimmy Haslam. He needs to be fair about that fact when assessing whether to do a full or partial housecleaning with the people who are far too often cleaning up his messes. Raiders: A one-and-done (again) for Pete Carroll isn’t out of the question. The team has struggled. Minority owner Tom Brady will have strong opinions about what needs to happen. At a minimum, it’s hard to imagine Carroll and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly coexisting for another season. Cowboys: Brian Schottenheimer has done better than many expected. Plus, like Mike Brown of the Bengals, owner Jerry Jones hates to pay coaches to not coach. Assuming Schottenheimer has more than one year of guaranteed pay, he’s virtually guaranteed to be back. Commanders: Dan Quinn likely isn’t on the hot seat this year, but the season has become a full-blown disaster. Four straight losses by 20 or more points. If it continues like that, he’ll at a minimum be under close scrutiny in 2026. Packers: Matt LaFleur already has been asked whether he’s coaching for his job. And for good reason. New team president Ed Policy has said that neither LaFleur nor G.M. Brian Gutekunst will get extensions until after the season. And with both signed through 2026, Policy also has made it clear he’s not a fan of lame-duck arrangements. If the Packers don’t make the playoffs, things could get interesting. Falcons: The team is way too inconsistent, and the strange Kirk Cousins/Michael Penix decision from 2024 hovers. With $90 million spent on a quarterback who isn’t playing, and the quarterback who is playing not fully living up to his top-10 draft pedigree, both coach Raheem Morris and G.M. Terry Fontenot may need wins down the stretch to secure another season. Saints: It’s highly unlikely that Kellen Moore will be gone after one year. Owner Gayle Benson has made it clear that G.M. Mickey Loomis is going nowhere, and Loomis seems to realize that Moore hasn’t been dealt an ideal roster hand, for now. Panthers: They’ve improved. Changes, for now, don’t seem to be in the offing. But owner David Tepper is sufficiently tempestuous to keep Carolina perpetually on the radar screen for potential change. Cardinals: The best argument for coach Jonathan Gannon and G.M. Monti Ossenfort is that they’ve yet to have a chance to get a quarterback of their own. Whether that saves the day hinges on whether showings like last weekend’s no-show in Seattle can be avoided.<<< |
