Whose to say Willis wouldn't be an upgrade? He's never had the chance to be a full 16 game starter, and who knows he could be this year's surprise player. We wouldn't be paying him dollar and he could fill a need at RT.
He could be, but if he had the same potential that Heyer has, Seattle would be pushing to resign him.

I heard on the radio that JT's agent has talked to Miami. I guess with him still living in the area and they give him a small contract he might end up back with them.

Bingo. The Jason Taylor releasing was a unbelievably odd deal. Why sign this guy in the first place? Why not include this offseason stuff upfront so we wouldn't waste a 2nd round and a 6th round pick?

I just don't understand why more aren't irate about the latest Vinny and Danny move. Wasteful and very odd move by the Redskins FO.....again.
Redskins Insider said many in our organization think Heyer can be an "above average" starting RT.

I havent heard anything said about Willis. He may or may not be better than Heyer. We dont know. Either way, the future RT of this team is already on the roster - his name is Chris Samuels and he can only be effective at LT one, maybe two more years. Any significant acquisition we make to improve our OT situation should be for an LT.

If Willis wants to sign here for close to the vet minimum and we decide to take the cap hit and cut Jansen now to make room for him, and draft Oher at 13, then fine - thats probably our best option if we want a really solid OT plan. Otherwise, we're giving up on Heyer way too soon.
First off I wouldn't believe a word of anything that goofball JLC writes. Second, Haven't we seen enough of Heyer already to know he can't be a starting RT?

You left out the part where others in the org. don't agree with that thought.
Although some in the organization believe third-year tackle Stephon Heyer could be better than average as a full-time starter, others are not so sure, and the consensus is that the Redskins must attempt to find another option from outside the complex.
I think a lot of you are taking London Fletcher for granted. Guys gonna be 34 this season and obviously he isn't getting younger. If Willis really is a legit starting RT (and ironically in seeing the Seahawks/Cowboys game he seemed to be one of two guys that wasn't getting his ass handed to him) then that will free us up to draft Maualgua use him as an OLB and groom him for the MLB spot. I think right now the best COA (course of action) is as follows:

- Call Evans right now and work out a contract
- Sign Willis to about 3 million per year, backloaded contract of course
- Draft Maualuga
- Draft a C/G Prospect in the third round

Re: Jason Taylor Released

point blank the guy wasnt 100% on being dedicated this off-season, with that said, save the cap room...

but i AM NOT, sold of Daniels starting. he just doesnt get to the QB as he once did, which seems like a long time ago.

IMO... we may be in trouble opposite of carter right now for the long haul that is the NFL season.

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to actually point this out.

Didn't we know that last offseason before we gave up a 2nd and a 6th round pick for him? Are we just learning that he wants to spend time at home during the offseason?

Portis, ST, and others did the same thing.

Me likey... although I won't complain if we grab Oher/Smith w/ the 13th pick but I think it leaves us a little unsettled at LB even if we do bring in Crowell

... btw I rewatched video of Rey last night... holy shit man, that's all i can say, holy shit.

Re: Jason Taylor Released

Like BHA said, I would rather draft Oher or A Smith than sigining Ray Willis if we are taking only 4 OTs, Samuels @ LT and draft @ RT while Jansen and Heyer are the backups. But if we do sign Ray Willis and draft say Oher, then we might as well cut Jansen and take the hit or take 5 OTs in the 53 man roster.

Uhhhh no. He was pushed into duty as an undrafted free agent his rookie season. Last year, he played one game at RT before going down with an injury. The rest of the year, he played at LEFT tackle when Samuels went down.

So we havent seen anything from Heyer yet. Hes entering his third year and the only thing he has shown is that he's one heck of a backup who has improved leaps and bounds every year and hes a guy. He was never, ever humiliated when playing LT. In all honesty, he did ok there, although we would never want him to start there.

All Heyer has done is get better and succeed at everything he's been asked to do. He's dirt cheap and has a ton of upside. However, in the end, we someone who can start at left takle so Samuels can move right.
