Re: Skins Sign O-Lineman Mike Williams
"Williams said he has lost 5 percent of his body fat and added muscle by 7 percent, which will not necessarily decrease his weight because muscle is heavier than fat. The operative term is "lean mass," which is the weight of muscle, plus bone density, water, even blood."
For Redskins' Williams, slimming down is a weighty matter - Washington Times
That is great news. I can't wait to see him in preseason. At this point I think he's definitely going to play this year. It's just a matter of fitness & keeping healthy.. |

His inability to do so, as I understand it, is why he hasn't been playing football for the last year or two. |
Re: Skins Sign O-Lineman Mike Williams
Any idea how Williams is doing?

Last I heard he was down to 365 lbs, but that was a few weeks ago. He said he wanted to get down to 340 lbs. I think he may be in Arizona working out right now. |
Re: Skins Sign O-Lineman Mike Williams
the redskins insider brought up the idea of bringing jon runyan as a stop gap measure for rt. any thoughts? is heyer a better option than bringing in runyan for a single year? i feel as though its a no brainer if we are reduced to a mike williams vs. runyan decision.

I almost started a new thread w/that RI post, but figured we have some old 09 free agent threads & nothing is even rumored at this point. I surely hope they don't feel the need to sign Runyan, or if they did he couldn't make the team. Sadly, he's probably as good or better than our current options at RT. |

Aint gunna happen, Runyan is old and is a dirty player. Remember, we got rid of Jansen....a classy guy that could run block. I just dont see that happening unless someone gets significantly injured...such as Heyer or Samuals. if you think Levi Jones would be a decent option, you'd be wrong. Jansen is more solid than that guy. The reality is what is available right now is thin. We need to live and die with our OT options....I sure hope Fatty Boombalatty turns into a lean mean fighting machine! |

fatty boombalatty is quite the nickname, and i sure hope that he is ready to make a difference too. |
Re: Skins Sign O-Lineman Mike Williams
Apparently Williams has got under 350 pounds. He is ready to compete for a job. I feel pretty good about our oline now. I always liked Heyer, Williams seems like the real deal and bridges was a solid RT in Carolina.

under 350! that's a big jump in weight loss. (Funny how it's so relative w/nfl players, but 350 is so huge even in the nfl!) I know it's not ideal to replace guys in your starting lineup midway in the season, but I think the best case scenario is that MW wins the job mid year. I worry that he won't be able to hold up for 16 games. If nothing else, his mental stamina will decrease if he's the starter from week 1 on. If he has success it will be something that he & Buges really deserve some props for. |

Where did you hear he's under 350. The progress chart says 365 still: http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/130576/weightTracker.jpg |

Gary: Did you hear Vinny Cerrato on ESPN 980 on Thursday? He said that Williams’ weight was down to 354 pounds. That’s incredible. He has lost more than 50 pounds since mid-April. For the last month, Williams has been working out in the Arizona heat with Chris Samuels, Derrick Dockery and Stephon Heyer. His weight loss is good news for Redskins fans seeking competition at right tackle--and it is good news for Williams and his long-term health. It shows Williams’ commitment and determination to renewing his NFL career.
I know there are a lot of IF's right now, but I'm getting excited. I'm trying to imagine a guy >450 lbs just a couple of months ago, and how long it really takes to get back into football stamina & shape. BUT, you *cannot* question his determination. Great to hear he's practicing with the rest of the O-line in Arizona.. I want them to be glued together. |
