What's so disturbing is Snyder sends him out there to take the bullets. He's such a coward that he can't face the music himself. He's too much of a pussy for that. Snyder should have been sitting right next to Bruce taking some of those shots. Yet he has nothing to say to this fanbase. Pathetic.
If Snyder would have been out there you would have said "Why is Snyder even out there undermining Allen?" |
im a big DS hater (which he could greatly improve if he hires a real GM for once)
but the DS caught a bunch of flak for sitting on stage at a press conf. caught flak for sitting in the front row with his wife (c/o was he was using his wife and her breast cancer work to deflect criticism or something stupid ..) i dont blame the DS at all for totally becoming invisible at this point. this is what everyone wanted. there is nothing the DS can do right at this point (except hire a real GM). i have no clue why the DS just does not hire a real GM ... a ton of hate would instantly disappear. he would be actually liked. such an easy "start in the right direction" on some many levels.
Define "Real GM" |

at the most basic level, a guy or girl with GM written on the front door of their office ... 1. someone who was hired as a GM or VP of Player Personnel for an NFL team in the past 2. someone who would be given the title of GM here im basically parroting what everyone else is saying .... i would like to see a traditional NFL organizational structure. the formula of having a coach be GM (gibbs, shanny) has not worked. the formula of having VP/owner be GM (cerrato/snyder, allen/snyder) has not worked. perhaps a GM being the GM will work. |

i feel like i am getting the socratic method here. you have a lot more knowledge and answers than me. i always thought Allen did contracts and didnt do the drafting and player evaluating in Tampa. I assume from your comment that he did. but what has Bruce Allen done to make him a qualified player evaluator? 1st round picks of micheal clayton, carnell williams and gaines adams do not look so great in hind sight. his later rounds dont look great either. this past FA offseason when he was fully in control for us doesnt look so great. lauvau as a day one priority? porter 4.5 mil per? all the concerns that kept other teams away from hatcher came true .. why didnt we give them the same weight? why should fans not be disappointed that we have not been told any specific plans to improve on the way our roster is assembled? if allen really has been a player evaluator for all these years, yes then i would let him have another go at it this year. But if he hasnt been doing that, then we need to bring in someone who does and can. he had this past year to play GM and he failed to address major issues with this roster that came back to bite us during games and are still issues today. do you trust bruce allen's ability to evaluate talent? is there no one else better avialable? |
All things off season 2015.
Allen made it pretty clear last year he was going to be involved with personnel decisions. Even under Shanahan he had input. That area has never been his strength.

Even with Tampa bay, it was a mix bag of results....at best. I would really love to see him step back from player aquisition, talent evaluation, scouting, etc. He seems to do a pretty good job with PR, contracts, salary cap, etc |

Lol. Not at all. Really our gutless owner is the one I'd rather hear from. I saw John Mara on NFL Network apologizing to his fan base. I don't need him to do that but say something after this mess. He rarely has anything to say about the product he puts on the field. |
Re: All things off season 2015.
As GM it's Allen's job to take the heat. The more Snyder stays in the background the better.

Re: All things off season 2015.
After listening to most of BA's press conference today and his avoidance of most of the questions (admittedly some tough ones, like the "why are you still employed" paraphrasing) I am starting to agree. He said they will look at the whole process, yet I'm like, who's going to look at the guys looking at the whole process?Because BA has had 5 years, who the hell is evaluating him and saying,"gee I feel confident that this guy is still in charge of football operations" after the season we just had.
Jay will get another pass because I'm not a believer in giving a head coach 1 year, but if we're still terrible next year it's time to hold a fire sale. Doug Williams (forgive me for speaking ill of one of our on-field glory boys) still hasn't shown me anything that says he's doing a good job here either. I don't see how we retain Bruce Allen at this point. The only thing I'm grateful for him is how he's tried to embrace our history, and reconnect our past heroes with current ownership. But his current football evaluation skills leave a lot to be desired.
That sentence right there sums it up perfectly. It's what the reporters at the press conference were trying to get out of BA, and he had no answer for it. The best thing he could have said is "The product that I have submitted for the last 5 years is a disgrace. A disgrace to the fans, a disgrace to the region that this team represents, and its storied history. I love this organization so much, and am so committed to restoring its success, that I'm willing to remove myself from the process of fixing it. The duties of talent evaluation, engineering the salary cap, scouting, and the draft will be handed to AJ Smith, who has a proven track record of success." Short of offering his immediate resignation, that's exactly what Bruce Allen should have done. He's a disaster. His product is abysmal, and the team should move on from him yesterday. |
Re: All things off season 2015.
If Chip Kelly gets out of his contract with Philly. I would bring him to Washington in a heart beat. I like Gruden, but Chip is my favorite coach in the NFL right now.
Define "Real GM"
Why do you seem to be so pissed off with the fans? The fans didn't bring hire the unqualified 'qb guru' Jay Gruden. We didn't bring the below average Shawn Lauvao day one of free agency. We didn't give Brian Orakpo 11 million to record 0.5 sacks. We didn't bring Andre Roberts in here to be a number 2 receiver. We didn't overpay for Jason Hatcher who's clearly heading toward the end of his career. We also had no part in signing Tracey Porter, Ryan Clark, and Perry Riley. We didn't draft Trent Murphy, Morgan Moses, or Spencer Long. We didn't have any part in this disaster. It was all Bruce Allen.
We as fans have done our part. We supported this team through thick and thin. Based on how bad this team has been over the last two decades the Redskins organization should be feel good that they still have fans. If the fans come off as impatient, it's because of how bad the team has been. We want a winner after decades of losing. We want competent decision makers of decades or poor decision making. Is it unreasonable to demand these things from the organization that you've been loyal too for decades? |
Re: All things off season 2015.
I think SS is trying to teach a lesson about the label "real GM," a lesson that I have needed since I have misused the term.
I thought that under MS, Bruce did contract stuff while Mike Shanny was the GM. That perception appears to not be true, or not completely - Bruce was definitely getting his personal say in there. And Bruce did a poor job of blocking ownership when they wanted nutty things. If true, then the problem isn't that Bruce isn't or hasn't been a "real GM." He's been a "real GM" all along and the problem is that he is a bad one. In other news, fire Bruce now. |

I mean how many times can I say fans can and often are dumb when it comes to sports. Even I can be, and it's what being a fan is about in many regards. Management does not have the luxury to be that way |
