Re: Charles Rogers

Gardner couldn't even make it as a 4th receiver for the panthers and was released. He had one good season and rest was mediocre. Gardner had plenty of time to prove his worth as a 1st rounder. Taylor Jacobs....yes he had unlucky injuries in his first 2 seasons. But, when he got the chance to prove himself this year when Patten went down. He couldn't produce. He may look impressive in practice, but in game situations...he's a waste of a draft pick.

On the other hand, if we could get Charles Rogers at a reasonable price..I think he's worth a try. His situation may be similar to Taylor Jacobs, but I don't think he had any legitimate chances to prove himself. He had Harrington throwing to him one week, then had Garcia throwing to him the other week. Also, I don't think he had a veteran WR to show him the ropes when he turned pro. Detroit has all these top 1st round WR's with no guidance. I think Rogers can be an asset with Patten, Moss, and Thrash showing him the ropes.
It would probably end horribly and I will later kick myself for saying this, but something about Rogers intrigues me. Maybe I am blinded by the glitz of the #2 overall pick...I guess I should remind myself that Ryan Leaf was also picked #2...oh and of course Michael Westbrook was #4...
I had the same thing with Akili Smith for a long time. I would tell people "he didn't get drafted that high for nothing." Yeah, well, it turns out that he did get drafted that high for nothing. I'm much more willing to give up on players because of that.

Charles Rogers brings with him all the uncertainty that you would get with TO. Rogers is always a step away from a big time injury and/or a substance abuse situation. TO is always one step away from carving up the locker room into factions. Both receivers come with huge baggage. Here's the difference:

Terrell Owens has shown that he is one of the top 3 receivers in the NFL at the moment. Charles Rogers has yet to show that he is one of the top 50 receivers in the NFL.

Rogers is a ticking time bomb but without the likelihood of a big onfield payoff. I wouldn't touch him with a ten-foot pole - - even if I could find one of them lying around here.

rogers has also violated the leagues substance abuse policy and was suspended 4 games this year. he also had a problem with that coming out of college, where he failed a piss test before the draft. couple that with being injury plagued and not producing, id pass on him

Actually I was evaluating the Lavar situation and We could Trade him to the Raiders for Jerry Porter, There is a possibility we could trade him to KC for Tony G., someone no one hardley talk about is Drew Bennett 6'5" 206....that would be nice... Larry Fitzgerald, who is loved by Denny Green but, for a Defensive Player like Lavar could be interesting....maybe we have to through somebodyelse in there.....(Ramsey) or Maybe Andre Johnson from the U...who now plays in Houston.....beefing up there D......all of these trades are possible......if Gibbs let Danny do the Dialing

I like how you are thinking but you must be dreaming. It will be very hard to deal LeVar with his current contract. I doubt very seriously if the Skins can acquire a quality receiver like Jerry Porter, Larry Fitzgerald, Tony Gonzalez, Drew Bennett or Andre Johnson for LeVar. Any of these guys would be a steal.

Rogers is an often injured bust to this point. The skins need to add a sure thing WR for next year, not just someone that they hope will pan out.
If we trade away LaVar to Philly then we could sign TO and Dominate the NFL
Bad Idea :frusty: .......... :spank: Have LaVar killing our QBs two times a year???

Re: Charles Rogers

A year ago in these very annals, we had folks proclaiming that the Skins could trade Rod Gardner for a first round pick. That didn't quite happen.

LaVar Arrington is a much better player than Rod Gardner to be sure but his contract limits his trade value by a whole lot. He will not bring a Pro-bowl caliber player in return in a trade; he will not bring a first round pick as an even-up trade. He could be part of a package deal that might bring in some high pick or a really good player, but it will not be for Arrington even-up.

And let me suggest that one of the WORST things that could happen to this franchise at this moment of history would be for "Gibbs to let Danny do the dialing".

Here is one of the BEST things that can happen to this franchise at this moment of history: Danny Boy and his new playmate Mark Shapiro focus their attention 24/7 on creating new rides and new ways to pick the pockets of people who go to Six Flags Amusement Parks. That will leave neither of them any time to pretend that either could make a good football decision other than by dumb luck.

1. Denny Green loves to throw the ball, and those three receivers are the one aspect of the Arizona Cardinals that does work. No way are they letting go of any of their wideouts.

2. Not only is Tony Gonzales fading, Gibbs prefers big, blocking tight ends to pass catching tight ends. In Gibbs' offense the H-back is the pass catcher. That's not going to happen either.

Plus, Gonzales would bring an enormous price tag, which in a year or two we're going to be faced with keeping guys like Cooley and Sean Taylor off the FA market, and surely we'll sign them to pretty big deals.

Re: Charles Rogers

AS SC said, LaVar has looked SLOW in the games he's played recently. I don't think we have a chance to get a top flight receiver for him.

As for Rogers, if the price is right he was crazy in college, but I doubt he'd stoop to the contract I'd offer.
