since he did have an injury the price may be down. the problem is once an NFL player gets injured its more likely they'll continue to miss time in the future. he may not have missed a ton of games, but there were a few times where i saw him leaving in the middle of games (like philly where he barely played) due to all kinds of troubles (asthma?), so playing time incentives would be a must.

It's true that paying Dyson $3 million per year to be a nickelback would be excessive. However, given that Springs probably has 2 stellar seasons left in him (and a few more good ones), it might not be bad to sign Dyson now and let him get a starting spot opposite Rogers by 2008. The deal would likely pay him nickelback money for the first few years and pay him a starter's salary once he takes over at the age of 28.

Also, in that Philly game, didn't he get an INT [I]and[/I] a fumble recovery for a touchdown?

In any event, that $17.5 million contract figure was inflated. He only got a $1.5 million signing bonus. He probably asked for a big-money contract to make it look like he got a bigger deal than he really did.

The more I think about it, the more our secondary needs upgraded more than the WR. other than springs and rogers, we dont have anyone that I feel confident with. Plus spring is 30, you need to find someone to replace him in a year or two. I dont think Law is the answer, he's old too and want 10 mil up front. That will definately be a FA pickup if the CBA is signed. But, it has to be a 3rd CB, not a nother 1 or 2 to take a job away from the two we have. Who knows, may Ade will be good next year. Also we are going to release bowen, and clark is a FA. thats another area of concern. They may end up drafting secondary help in the second round instead of WR.

Let's not forget about potentially losing Pierson Prioleau and Omar Stoutmire. Both provided solid depth last year but if we lose them along with Bowen and Clark, we'll be hurting at safety more than cornerback. And Sean Taylor's legal issues only complicate the situation further.

Personally, I don't care whether or not we lose Bowen, but I'd like to see Clark re-signed and Prioleau retained. It would be nice to keep Stoutmire too, but his veteran's salary might be too much for us.

At CB, I'm content with a third round pick for the position. Jimoh has showed nice progress, and I think we should be able to find a decent guy at that point in the draft.

WR in the 2nd would be stupid unless moss or pope drops. hass and orr are in the 3rd and i still think they'll be better pros than the hagan/stovall/nance deal that'll happen in the 2nd. I don't really like C jackson that much either, but with a 4.3, he won't be there anyways.

to be honest, im all for never taking a WR in the draft again. let a wr show some promise at another team (ex. moss) and then trade for them when you've seen what they can do.

That's my thinking on Dyson too. With him at a reasonable price, it really would be like having 3 starting and interchangeable corners. Williams could really have a field day on match-ups. He really is the classic "New England" type free agent pick-up: Young, coming off a down year, but an otherwise solid career. If he isn't looking to break the bank, I hope we can pick him up.

But as has been noted, I would not be surprised if a few other teams are thinking the same thing.
