Re: NFL meeting: rules, changes, replacing tags.
I agree with making refs full time pros. i wouldn't abolish replay though and there's no way they'd want to speed the game up. a 3.5+ hour game means 3.5+ hours of commericials, which means more money for the league.
but NFL shortcut are great if you like a fast game. |
Three suggestions:
2. Profesionalize the Referee/Umpires jobs.
That I completely agree with. We all bitch about piss poor officiating, but the Leage won't do anything to rectify that situation. The Ref's need to be full time and well paid. |
Re: NFL meeting: rules, changes, replacing tags.
honestly i cant see having full time refs being significantly better.
|
Re: NFL meeting: rules, changes, replacing tags.
honeslty i think the advent of technology and replays has caused us, as fans, to be even more critical and see even replays the refs dont.

If you are gonna have it, you might as well call it sometimes. |

Amen, man. |
Re: NFL meeting: rules, changes, replacing tags.
I understand there will be mistakes but hey New England got their first Super Bowl after a rule was made up to save Tom Brady. That is one of the reasons the Patriots are high on my most hated teams list.
what about the broncos game last year... |
Re: NFL meeting: rules, changes, replacing tags.
they should just kill the tuck rule. it was called correctly in the bronco's game, but its a terrible rule.
|
Re: NFL meeting: rules, changes, replacing tags.
the tuck rule is the worst rule,by far,in any sport

NFL | More proposals to be considered at the owner's meeting
Sat, 25 Mar 2006 17:40:29 -0800 Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports a few more proposals that are being considered at the NFL owner's meeting next week are: A proposal prohibiting the kicking team from overloading one side of the field with more than seven players on onside kicks, more protection for the long snapper on field-goal attempts and a restriction on blocks in the back on punts. Another proposal would limit the referee's review time on replays from 90 to 60 seconds. nothing all that interesting. |
Re: NFL meeting: rules, changes, replacing tags.
why not the over loading of one side of the field on field goals?
|
Re: NFL meeting: rules, changes, replacing tags.
i like shortening of the replay review

NFL | New commissioner will have to decide on games out of the country
Sun, 26 Mar 2006 05:59:51 -0800 Vito Stellino, of the Florida Times-Union, reports one of the decisions the next commissioner must make is whether to play more regular-season games on foreign soil. The league talked about playing a game in London this fall but scrapped the idea because it was too busy working on a new collective bargaining agreement. Current commissioner Paul Tagliabue is a big supporter of growing football's popularity by playing games in new locations, but not many teams are willing to give up home dates as the Arizona Cardinals did last year. |

NFL | L. Hunt to push for 14 playoff teams
Sun, 26 Mar 2006 07:56:58 -0800 Adam Teicher, of the Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt will push for an expanded playoff field with 14 teams, seven from each conference. Hunt said, "It has merit for everybody, not just the Kansas City Chiefs. It creates more interest in more cities. That's the main thing. It is easier to sell tickets when you can say you were a playoff team." Hunt has pushed for more postseason teams before and it was met with plenty of resistance. It is likely it will again this time around. Atlanta Falcons president Rich McKay, who is also the co-chairman of the NFL's competition committee, said, "I'm not sure the sentiment has changed a lot." NFL | Competition committee would like to change rule for wide receivers Sun, 26 Mar 2006 08:50:13 -0800 Jeff Darlington, of the Palm Beach Post, reports the NFL's competition committee would like to see a rule that would allow wide receivers to reset if they have a minor flinch before the start of a play. Atlanta Falcons general manager and co-chairman of the committee Rich McKay said, "We're trying to find ways to limit that. The receiver would be given the opportunity to replay and there would be no stoppage." The committee is looking to limit the number of flags thrown. Seahawks | Controversial calls have competition committee talking Sun, 26 Mar 2006 08:49:47 -0800 Jeff Darlington, of the Palm Beach Post, reports the NFL's competition committee has discussed several controversial calls from Super Bowl XL. Under the proposed improvements, only the holding penalty against Seattle Seahawks OG Sean Locklear might have been changed. Atlanta Falcons general manager and co-chairman of the committee Rich McKay said, "If you do not see the entire foul, you cannot call holding. We want to make sure they actually see the foul." NFL | Committee looking to change onside kicks Sun, 26 Mar 2006 09:20:14 -0800 Patrick McManamon, of the Akron Beacon Journal, reports the NFL's competition committee is proposing to not allow teams to load up on one side of the ball on onside kicks. They feel eight or nine players could be dangerous and are considering a requirement for teams to have at least four players on each side of the ball. reacaps, but a little more in depth. |
