Re: Preseason Scrubs
We all know that we usually have the same guys come back and try to desperately make this team. Anyone think that some of them may have a chance this year. A few to mention; Rufus Brown/ CB, Jonathan Combs/ RB, Brock Forsey/ RB, Ron Warner/ DE (CFL at this moment in time), Jimmy Farris/ WR and there are several more. I would be delighted to hear some inputs on this.
I thought Ron Warner was a good defensive end for rotation purposes. Another guy who was a training camp mainstay was WR Derrius Thompson. He's one of the rare guys truly came out of nowhere and made a brief splash as a starter -- then got signed up by the Dolphins. Wonder if he's still there? |
Re: Preseason Scrubs
people love the fodder cause a couple of them are going to look good playing against other teams' crap players... some people can't compare performance vs level of competition well, so those people end up holding way too high of an opinion of these crap players.
farris got on the field last year in real games and proceded to do NOTHING. |
Re: Preseason Scrubs
Yeah, I would take Thrash over HIM anyway because Thrash is still WAY better on special teams than Farris.

Kinda strange that he just fell off the map, he seemed to be developing quite nicely. His stat line for 2002 was 53 catches, 773 yards and 4 scores. |

Re: Preseason Scrubs
hopefully these guys will all have stiff competition from rookie draft picks & fa's. If our 2nd rnder turns out well & 2 of the late rnd guys make the team, I'd be happy.

Re: Preseason Scrubs
With the salary cap H@## that we've gotten ourselves into, all of the old-folks home eligible FAs, the inept coaching staff, the even more inept FO, and the lack of NFL Draft picks, we will be lucky if we are able to field a whole team of players.
Oh, my bad. That was 6 years ago! |
Re: Preseason Scrubs
I heard Riddick say that Lumpdens was a fast guy and someone to keep an eye on during training camp. Does anyone have stats on Lumpdens?

Oh, my bad. That was 6 years ago!
I'm glad you added that last line, I was about to write up a doosy of a reply for you. :) Let's see, scrubs... John Hall! |
Re: Preseason Scrubs
He's a WR. And I'm thinking the same thing you are. There isn't room for him here. The guy I'm really keeping an eye on is K Tyler Jones. He could knock Hall out if he does well this summer
I think Gibbs would be hard pressed to let Hall go for an unproven kicker in the NFL. Hall might not have the distance he once had but he is still a very consistant kicker. If Hall could just get over his injury spell from the past two years we might even see him improve on his distance. They have changed his work out program thinking it might have been the problem. I just think you need a kicker with experence that you know will hold up under the presure of the NFL and game winning kicks.
I just looked up our kick off stats. We were in the bottom quarter for kick off distance. Miami was #1 and averaged about 6 yards longer but on average the returns were about 5 yards more against them. So if you look at all the stats we were about in the upper middle on where the other team started their drives. The only real state that jumped out at me was the Touch Backs and we only had one while Miami had 16 but that means when teams did return the kick they averaged more return yards against Miami. |
Re: Preseason Scrubs
our starters play on kick coverage, maybe miami's dont?
|
Re: Preseason Scrubs
again lets also remember that danny smith wanted kicks HIGHER to make sure the coverage team got there.

What difference does it make how high the kicks are when by the time the coverage team gets to the returner, he's at the 15 or 20 yard line as opposed to the endzone or the 5 ? |
