Re: We will draft a CB or DT with our first pick
I completely agree with what you say on the first part, except we do not need another DT right now, we are pretty deep I believe at that position, however, we need another CB, because Springs is getting older and his injuries may become a problem late in the year, but we do need a LB, so either a CB or LB is the way to go. Hey Can we get Darrel Green out of retirement?
Kenny Wright could start every game if we needed him to, and Ade/Pierson would be a solid nickelback combo. I'm not so sure Cedric Killings could. He filled in admirably last year, but over the course of 10 games, I fear he would have become a liability. Wynn and Daniels are capible of playing inside in pass rush siutations, but not as every down players. As long as Saleve'a and Griffin both make it through the season, we can get away with our DT situation. I believe we are prepared for most anything at CB. As far as the future, Carlos is the future number 1. Springs and Wright are both old, but hey, that's what day 2 is for. |
Re: We will draft a CB or DT with our first pick
It will definitely be either LB, DT but not corner. We are too thin on in the LB position without Holdman being resigned yet, and at the DT position, where you always want to have alot of depth as it is just for injuries.
I do agree that Archuleta will be used like a LB in Greg's system, but expect him to do alot more coverage than he will like to do, we are not known for an 8 in the box front. Maybe that will be something that this team is going to test out in the pre-season and maybe early on. |
Re: We will draft a CB or DT with our first pick
I definately wouldn't rule out corner. Wright is a 1 year deal, springs is old, and jimoh aint great. our safety depth begins and ends with prioleau.
our DT depth has a reserve starter and a good sub right now. |
Re: We will draft a CB or DT with our first pick
I disagree i think we lack depth at safety more than corner. But, I think we will take the best available player at either safety, offensive line, corner, or linebacker.
Yep. We already have Springs, Rogers, Wright, and Jimoh at corner. Safety is a little more of a concern with only Prioleau backing up Taylor and Archuleta. Personally, I think we need a LB pretty bad consdering that beyond Washington and Marshall, we only have Clemons, Campbell, and McCune. Marshall's versatility will allow us the flexibility of either a MLB or OLB. We could use some depth at T, especially since our best options are only Wilson and Molinaro. We already have two backup interior linemen in Pucilllo and that guys from the Texans (can't remember his name). DT could be upgraded, but we already have a lot of decent players there (Griffin, Saleve'a, Killings, Boschetti, and Aki Jones). I'm banking on a LB being our next pick. |
Re: We will draft a CB or DT with our first pick
I know a lot of you know think were gonna draft a LB with our first pick in the second round, but that no gonna happen. The reason is adam archuleta. He will basically play like a linebacker for us, being close to the box. That makes are greatest need a defensive back that can cover well. We could even look for another playmaker at DT. We all saw last year how much better our D was with Grif and big joe playing. You need as many playmakers there as possible.
I agree i want us to take a DB as well |
Re: We will draft a CB or DT with our first pick
I think we could go with TE, LB, or CB. It depends on who is on the board.
TE - Fauria is a decent pickup, but he's not exactly the long term solution. Plus, this year's crop of TEs is very deep. On the other hand, Cooley has been moved to tight end and so drafting a #2 tight end with our first pick might be a luxury. LB - I'd like to see a backup currently on our roster become a new starter, but I'm not sure that it is going to happen. Plus, there should be some quality LBs available by the time we pick. CB - Kenny Wright was a nice addition, but as has been pointed out, Springs is aging and we need someone who can develop into a starter opposite Carlos Rogers. Plus, Williams' defense uses a lot of DBs and we're not that deep at CB or S. I wouldn't mind trading up into the bottom of the first round or top of the second round to grab Cromartie. He was projected as a top 10 pick before he was injured and he seems to have fully recovered. He could be a steal for a team that gets him. |
Re: We will draft a CB or DT with our first pick
If the draft is deeper at certain positions you can wait until the later rounds to draft at that position. We'll take the best player available that fits our needs at LB, DB, DL, or OL. We can address any of those needs mainly DL and OL, in FA post June 1st.

Re: We will draft a CB or DT with our first pick
if we took jeff mitchell we probably wouldn't need to draft an OG high. It looks like the skins have only really looked at LBs and CBs thusfar, so i'd bet on one of those positions.
GW depends on a great secondary so he can cover 0 and blitz a lot. He could have champ mccalister and law and still want more cornerbacks. |

If you're talking about Marc Wilson, the draft pick from a couple of years ago, then he's gone. Didn't make the cut. Jim Molinaro was taken with him, and he's still on the roster, but it looks like the coaches aren't too confident with him either. There's also a guy named Jim Jones who's probably a backup at best. (Just don't drink any Kool-aid, if he offers!) A good argument could still be made to draft for the offensive line. But as it's been said over and over, if there's not an O-lineman worth taking at #53, you can't overreach for it. |
