Re: Best blockers: Football Scientist
It may seem like Doc is no longer a penalty maker but he really is. He has had more holding calls last year than the previous two years combined. His false starts went down by 75% though.
I like this site for o-line stats http://snap.stats.com/stats/nflinfo/playerstats.asp?id=6417&Submit=Go He dropped in sacks allowed also. |

Re: Best blockers: Football Scientist
Good stats, BSB. You're right, Thomas really does stand out - his play is almost flawless, even though the other guys are pretty good.
|
Re: Best blockers: Football Scientist
this is for RUN blocking. dockery is still #5 on our OL.
|
Re: Best blockers: Football Scientist
wow, hutch is pretty good ;) thomas too. clearly our #1.

Re: Best blockers: Football Scientist
Don't play with heart or passion?
Wow. That's a pretty strong statement. How can you back that up? I think Buges might disagree with you.
Thats just my opinion, So it's Fact ;) Keep in mind that redskins linemen are going to rate higher then Rams linemen because we were in MAX protect Most ever single play. Having a TE on the outside of your tackles every play really helps the OT stats. Our tackles are helped out by TE and RB chipping the DE every play. |
Re: Best blockers: Football Scientist
I still think they are overrated and dont play with heart or passion. I will take thomas and jansen over those guys any day of the week and twice on sunday...
A lot of skins fans don't know or appreciate what they have in Samuels. He was selected to the pro-bowl and he wasn't selected because of name recognition, he was selected because coaches and players thought he was very good. All I really have to say is I'm glad we have the linesmen we have. |

Re: Best blockers: Football Scientist
Sorry buddy but that's not a fair comparison, especially since Samuels and Jansen go up against ferocious DE.
Obviously. I am not comparing them. That is why I put up the list of stats of others top players at their positions and compared them.
I put up this entire post comparing positions---
OK, the numbers mean nothing alone so here are the stats of pro bowlers Samuels and Jansen compared to Walter Jones Sea Orlando Pace STL Willie Anderson CIN Jonathan Ogden BAL Dock and Thomas compared to Larry Allen DAL ASS Steve Hutchinson SEA Alan Faneca PIT Will Shields KC Rabach compared to Jeff Saturday IND Lecharles Bentley NO Olin Kreutz CHI
Still Thomas is the best player on this line and offense. He is perfection. Few sacks and no penalties. He roles out and makes the block. He is perfect for this system and our O play went down IMMENSELY after he got hurt. The offensive disappearing act at the eagles, bucs, and seahawks was due to his absence. |
The offensive disappearing act at the eagles, bucs, and seahawks was due to his absence.
Seems logical doesn't it. Take away our bread and butter and leave us with a wing and a prayer.

Re: Best blockers: Football Scientist
A good block is a successful block
I'm not going to post the entire article since it's an ESPN Insider article, but just to sum it up KC Joyner rated out the best blockers in the league using a few different categories and he came up with what he calls the blocking success percentage, or one way to rate the general success/failure of each block. Here's how the best rated according to his blocking percentage system: 1. C. Samuels Washington 94.8% 2. S. Locklear Seattle 94.4 3. K. Barry Green Bay 94.2 4. C. Villarrial Buffalo 91.8 5. B. Hamilton Denver 91.6 6. D. Dockery Washington 91.1 7. J. Peters Buffalo 90.9 8. R. Brown Chicago 90.8 9. V. Riley Houston 90.5 10. B. Olson Tennessee 90.2
This is falsified. Samuels yes good, however I think Jansen is better. How is he left outta the mix. I pray Dockery is as good as this % report. B/C I have my doubts with Dockery/Rabach. Though Rabach is solid Im not a full believer for some reason. |
Re: Best blockers: Football Scientist
Can anyone tell me why the hell are we comparing our players? Is this a case of a solution in search of a problem?
