Re: Bearish Season Prediction

malcolm, your logic is flawed. sure, i agree that rogers is a very good tackler. with that being said, he always has about a 10 yard cushion so completing passes in front of him is childs play. i wish there was a stat for that. 10 yard passes keep drives alive. something mark brunell knows nothing about

TheMalcolmConnection 10-31-2006 03:46 PM

Re: Bearish Season Prediction

I'm not going to blame Carlos for the cushion he gives. Once Springs comes back and all is right in the defensive universe, then we'll see how he fares. The cushion he gives has to be due to GW telling him to give it because he doesn't trust Archuleta to make the tackle.

Re: Bearish Season Prediction

sure it helps to play opposite springs...but lets but we really aren't playing teams with only 1 good WR...as i listed bf, i see problems across the board. It should be easier for the safety to cheat over to help out, but we've not been getting sound play there all year. could change with springs, but that remains to be seen, as the colts really are a good indicator (anomoly- I hope). I'm really at a loss, i expect much more (as we all did).
Re: 724, yet another comically blind fan who refuses to legitimately look at the season prospects, but i hope he is right. i like how you simply dismiss all other talent in favor of your simple, yet elegant arguments (romo is a homo)...

as for rogers, are you really going to just soley based on TDs given up? i don't believe he's been only burned for 2, but i'll leave that alone. what about his large cushion that he gives to each of opponent allowing them to catch anywhere between 8-12 yards at will (even in 4th and 8 situations...i remind you...)

I mean, lets be honest. rogers has not shown an ability to people, that is prevent them from going for bigs days when he's defending.

I will attempt to locate stats for rogers, as i not have hard ones at my disposal. Do you?
Fine, I'll clarify.

Romo looked good in his first NFL start aganist a team that couldn't convert on 3rd downs, dropped TD catches and fumbled the ball. Real solid Carolina team there. I gave props to their only decent option: Smith.

The Bucs are terrible, Gradkowski isn't lighting the world on fire anymore.

McNabb and the Eagles played against crappy teams and are now playing real teams...result = 3 straight losses and a QB that's going to take more risky chances to try to win = more INT's.

The Giants don't particularly worry me. Their not a fanatstic team. They're playing great D currently but it won't last. It never does with them. Don't discount division games and home field advantage.

The Saints are average. They looked like crap versus the Ravens sans offensive coordinator. Their defense is terrible. The offense is actually good. Terrible D + good O = average team.

The Rams? Real scary defense there nowadays. They might win but I' not betting on them.

The Redskins have had time to sit back and identify problems, work on those issues and rest up for a decent second half + 1 game run. I'm not predicting a 9 - 0 record but I see more wins than losses. 6 - 3 down the stretch to finish 8 - 8. Sorry, I like being a fan(atic). Being a follower for over two decades has give me the ability to be unreasonably hopeful and I like being obnoxiously optimistic versus down-troddenly pessimistic.

do you really think its a lack of faith in Archuleta or perhaps a lack of faith in both players?

Re: Bearish Season Prediction

I appreciate the clarication...

1) Nobody can be convinced of romo, but the cowboys did dominate us with Drew and TO on the sideline...we can't stop the run

2) bucs are not terrible, and their D has firmed up, and i give us a good CHANCE to win (ie one of our few W's).

3) McNabb played Crappy teams, and is now playing real teams...one of those "real" teams that they just lost to was the Bucs. They also barely lost to the giants (ie gave the game away), who then destroyed us...

4) Giants should worry us...their D has firmed up- and it started with the game vs the Skins. I won't discount the FedEx advantage, but how many fans will have sold their tickets to Giants by then? or worse how many fans will be rowdy in week 17?

5) Agreed with Saints. However, Average - Below Average = win
or average is still > below average (which is where the skins are...)

6) Rams can score. Can we? Holt and Bruce along will run wild. S. Jackson is coming on strong as well.

Addressing our own problems:

D can't cover, and therefore can't comit to blitzes. without blitzes, we don't get pressure on the QB, which gives him time to pick apart the D or allows for larger holes to run..

O can't consistently score. We don't move the ball well, our QB has happy feet and checks down far too often and early. Our line is confused as to our identify (do we run?) Portis is confused to his role (why are they using him?) and the recievers are frustrated bc they aren't getting balls. Saunders even seems frustrated that Brunell is still at QB...(re: thats a decision for the head coach comment)

so while we pick apart the short comings of other teams...lets consider our own listed above...all totalled, can we realistically expect to win many of those games?

I appreciate your optimism, and hope its comes to fruition, however i clearly don't share it. 8-8 is bold, but even at .500 I'm not sure it gets us into the playoffs given our record against division foes. I also hope that a bye week to identify and cure our ailments is enough, however, i remain skeptical as we've been unable to accomplish this task in the 7 weeks preceeding.
And, unfortunately, people tend to compare Rogers to Smoot. And Smoot is put on a higher pedestal by a lot of people just because he's no longer a Redskin. So he's seen as yet another stud we let get away. But if you look at the numbers, Smoot's really aren't better than Rogers' and Carlos hasn't embarrassed the organization with
any extracurricular activities. 'LOS SMACK!
Smoot should never be considered a stud at the cornerback position. He was a fan favorite because he had personality, but he was a horrible tackler and he covered like Deion Sanders, minus Sanders' natural ability. He was above average, but if he didn't have the mouth, no one would know who he is. Rogers is at least as good or better than Smoot was in his second season, overall.

TO and Bledsoe played against us. TO broke his finger. We really can't stop the big pass play if I'm going to point out a specific glaring weakness.

Please tell me who he has been consistently burned by besides Troy Williamson. It's been rare.
As a CB, you don't need to get burned consistently by a WR to be considered a failure. Getting burned for a big play here and there throughout a game is enough to lose.

Rogers has been a major disappointment. We drafted him 9th overall didn't we? He should be handling #1 WRs right now, if not completely shutting them down.

He'll do much better against the #2s. But still, Archuleta and Taylor aren't anywhere close to being on the same page. Their mistakes in coverage are going to expose Rogers for his imperfections. With safety play as bad as we've had, CBs have to be perfect or else they end up looking like shitake mushrooms.

Re: Bearish Season Prediction

i agree i guess that some of it is bc of archuleta. i think rogers will a decent #2. i think the entire secondary feels that they have to account for the 4th LB (AA).

its just so hard to understand how are D could fall so far and fast.

Smoot was good but he wasn't great. The words of the Ramsey haters work well for the Smoot situation too. "He's not coming back. Stop whining."

And if saying Rogers doesn't suck is ridiculous, saying that he does suck is ignorant...

1) you wrote: TO and Bledsoe played against us. TO broke his finger. We really can't stop the big pass play if I'm going to point out a specific glaring weakness.

My point was EVEN with Bledsoe (now benched) and the TO injury, WE still got manhandled. only close due to Rock's runback. what has changed, beside's the cowboy's new QB who wasn't flustered by Carolina's much better D?

2) you wrote: The Bucs are not good. They are a poor man's Baltimore Ravens team right now.

The bucs are ok. we have a shot...they did just beat philly. (who by the way you just claimed lost to 3 "Good teams".

3) you wrote: Three straight losses shows me some sort of problem.
Weren't the Redskins 2-2? that aside, we frequently have troubles with mcnabb and westbrook. like the giants and dallas, its likely they find their form against the skins...

4) you wrote: If your not in the playoff hunt then the next place is spoiler role.
If you are holding on to the spoiler role, i think you are grasping for air...i mean they thoroughly owned us.
brunell tossed for 109 yards and we ran for 78.
Manning tossed for 256 and ran for 155.
final score 19-3. that was after our GREAT game against the jags...

5) you wrote: The Saints have above expectations, we're playing below. Something's gotta give like it does every year for most teams.
Miami was considered a superbowl darkhorse, does that mean they should beat chicago this week? There is something to be said for reality, and the reality is, Saints have played well, and the skins haven't.

6) you wrote: We can score. The potential is there. Ask the Jaguars and Texans. Well, just ask the Jag's.
Again, reality is key. Rams DO score, while the Skins can score, only in theory. how many points are we averaging?

Schneed10 10-31-2006 04:46 PM

Re: Bearish Season Prediction

With the secondary, Springs and Rogers didn't just all of a sudden start sucking balls after performing well last year. They're the same guys.

But Rogers didn't face #1 receivers last year, this year he's had to because Springs was out. Secondly, he had a safety tandem behind him last year that he could trust.

The secondary's problems are almost entirely attributable to Archuleta. He's out of position so often that Taylor has to compensate and often is getting confused. Good QBs take advantage, and since Rogers isn't Champ Bailey, and since our pass rush blows, voila Rogers gets exposed.
