Re: Mel Kiper on Monk
its a disgrace that he's not in...
parcells said monk would be going downhill on rollerskates when asked about the ease of monk's hall prospects. the man retired with many many recieving records, its not his fault that the great one came and destroyed them...he is a prince and a scholar. |

Dude is an authority! Sort of like............................Sean Salisbury.
Martin is like the Monk of RBs. A vastly underrated guy who did his job, didn't complain, and had a long and successful career. It is a shame to hear Martin getting pub when Monk continues to get the snub.
To say Martin had a successful career is an understatement, Martin is the #4 all time leading rusher. He's a lock for the HoF. |

And Monk was #1 in receptions when he retired yet he's still on the outside looking in. |
Re: Mel Kiper on Monk
Why can't we hire Mel as our GM, imagine how good we could be with kiper and gibbs and saunders.

Receptions and rushing yards are just not comparable. Monk was a good receiver but not HoF material. I have a hard time getting my mind around the fact that CM is the #4 all-time leading rusher because I have a hard time seeing him as HoF worthy. |

Wow! Way to go! I am officially a Milk Hyper supporter.

Monk gets the shaft on many levels. He played in a day where catching 100 balls in a season was unheard of... and he was the first to do it! With how pass happy the NFL has become, it's only made his accomplishments seem that much more insignificant which is sad. It should be interesting to see what happens with Martin. I'm really not sure that he's a lock. There are a lot of people out there that differ on Martin and even Bettis. If I had a vote, I'd put Martin in. To me his numbers tell the story. #4 on the rushing list 14,101 yards 90 TDs 10 straight 1000 yard seasons 5 seasons of 1300 or better 4.0 avg 4 seasons of double digit TDs He was consistently one of the better backs in this league for a long time. |
Re: Mel Kiper on Monk
C-Mart should definitely go to the hall. But it is a popularity contest, and totally subjective -- so he may not get the credit he deserves (like many others I'm sure) :(
Monk was just passed by Isaac Bruce for 10th all time in receiving yards. That means that only 10 people have more career receiving yards than Monk -- in the entire history of professional football! How can you argue that a guy who is the 11th best receiver ever (based on yardage) is not good enough? You can't. If I were Monk, and got accepted to the hall I would boycott. But, I would wait to be on stage giving my acceptance speech when I would express my feelings. It would be on camera and much more dramatic. |

not HoF material? WTF? You call yourself a Skins fan?!?! And by the way if receptions and rushing yards aren't comparable then what receiving stat is comparable? |

Re: Mel Kiper on Monk
ods - reread Irish's statement "Receptions and rushing yards are just not comparable. Monk was a good receiver but not HoF material." He was talking of Monk...
while I disagree with his statement, he seems to share an opinion with those who do the HoF voting... |
Re: Mel Kiper on Monk
My bad - I was looking at the second part about CM. I guess I found it unfathomable that a knowledgeable football fan (other thank King) would suggest Monk isn't HoF material, and I consider irish pretty knowledgeable.
That just doesn't make any sense. |

Brunell HOF????

Re: Mel Kiper on Monk
I also think they should make Tagliabue wait 5 years.
And I agree, WHEN Monk makes it, I will be in Canton. |
