he is quickly becoming on of my favorite skins right now

Re: Troy Vincent - New heart of the Skins?
Arch was not a front office deal only. Williams wanted him and said so. I think our FO has done a decent job bringing in guys who have contributed. Our drafts have been below average but not disasters. Disasters are Shuler, Westbrook type picks. So far the guys have been contributors. I don't think we've been good but we haven't been horrible. Not good enough though. Arch is back to playing the position he was brought in for. Run playing safety. When Priloeau went he had to play more than they wanted to originally. Now he can do what he does best. Vincent started because of the play call not because he is necesarilly above Arch. Just different packages.

Re: Troy Vincent - New heart of the Skins?
Barring injury Archuletta is a role player going forward. I just hope they keep Vincent after this year.

Re: Troy Vincent - New heart of the Skins?
I hope we can somehow finagle a few draft picks and maybe draft a safety. Doughty always seems to be out of position when he IS in there.

I think they will, as long as he doesn't retire. |
Re: Troy Vincent - New heart of the Skins?
I agree that they've made mistakes (e.g. Archuleta), but I don't think they're one of the worst front offices in the league. They're mediocre/average IMHO.
If you think the skins are mediocre I cant help but wonder who you think is worse. Nobody in the league spends more and gets less than the skins. I think the skins are worse than buffalo because buffalo made one bad move with vincent while the skins have made so many bad moves over the past 5+ years we dont have time to list them all. |

he has said that he wants to play for a while longer and felt he still had stuff to give |
Re: Troy Vincent - New heart of the Skins?
The reality is though that we can afford to be a bit more "reckless" in our free agent approach. I understand there's a salary cap but there are admittedly so many loopholes that the Snyders of the world can and do take advantage of.
Moreover, I think we're overly critical of this front office because we're so "involved" with this team. But I mean we praise the Eagles yet what has Jevon Kearse done for them? No one talks about the Cowboys blowing money on Wiley or the Falcons on Peerles Price. We say why can't the Redskins keep their players and build chemistry but then we turn around and praise the Patriots for their fiscal responsibility letting player after player go each year. |

After suffering for years, this front office took us back to the playoffs. Granted, they should be doing that more consistently, but they took us there nonetheless. For that simple reason, they get a pass on boneheaded moves like Arch. Please list off the names of those free agents who you think have been busts since 2004 (which marks the beginning of this front office's tenure). Then list who you think were good acquisitions. The good ones outweigh the bad ones by a mile and we have yet to bite the "salary cap" bullet. You've got to give them credit for avoiding salary cap doom. |
Re: Troy Vincent - New heart of the Skins?
For me, if we're going to spend on FA again, and we're going to break the bank, I want us to just SIGN the big name. We could have had a number of defensive ends and safeties. We all know GW thinks he can coach talent into people, but sometimes I just want the sure thing.

The only big-name I'd go for is Dwight Freeney and he'd probably break the bank. |
Re: Troy Vincent - New heart of the Skins?
I've got a lot of respect for Brian Mitchell. He will tell it like it is. There are a couple of things that i don't agree w/ him on but for the most part i think he is dead on. Troy V is a good pickup for us. He knows how to play and I think he is going to do us a lot of good the 2nd half of the season.

We always can find some money for big names. Nate Clements is who I WANT. |

Irish, did you see or read about Buffalo's draft this last year? Analysts were dumbfounded. |
