Re: The Campbell Windup
I like Jaws, Clayton is really the only one who I REALLY take stock in what he says.
Jaws is one of the few that I think most of us respect.
Especially when he says something most of us desperately want to be true. |
Re: The Campbell Windup
Jaws gets mad respect because he doesn't just spew opinions, he busts out the tapes and shows exactly what he's talking about, in plain English no less.
You can learn more about football by listening to him for one hour than you could by watching Joe Buck and Troy Aikman for an entire season. There have been great QBs with goofy deliveries. Brett Favre is the first that comes to mind. Delivery is not a big determining factor in a QB's success. |
Re: The Campbell Windup
I never really thought Favre had a goofy delivery. I think JC's delivery is very similar to Kerry Collins.

Are you saying his delivery is a major problem? |
Re: The Campbell Windup
his delivery might be a tad slow, but it's worth it when it yields that kind of velocity. His mobility will make up for his slower release, he seams to make the best passes when he can really step up in the pocket, even when he is actually moving forward.

It is kinda surprising that former coaches sound like idiots on TV. Sometimes I wonder if it was more the players and the assistant coaches around them, that allowed success. |

IMO its hard to tell at this point. I do think it takes him forever to get off some short throws and that extra millisecond gives defenders time to catch up and make a play. That said his delivery had worked for him to get this far as a QB. If others & myself see this for sure the coaches do and I'm sure they will work with him to speed up his release so he can improve. I think by the middle of next season we will know if its a problem |
Re: The Campbell Windup
jaws really turns into a eagles homer too readily. ever since micheal got on with his constant pimping of the U and the roids, everyone on that set has turned homerific :/.
clayton is a bit annoying, and does more reporting than analysis (outide his sunday radio gig), but he's usually right, and always well informed. as far as the draft - kiper, clayton, mayock (the constant harping on the greatness of cutler was really out of whack). campbell's problem isn't his delivery, it's his accuracy on shorter passes, though that seems to magically fix itself in the redzone... |

thats what i,m talking about d@mn. ..it will only get better with time.. he will improve.....he has my attention the moment he came in the lineup. |

Agreed. The quarterbacks that have to work on mechanics are the ones that are lacking talent in other areas(i.e. David Carr, Eli Manning, etc.). Campbell's pocket presence and mobility should make up for his long setup. |

He's also the guy I'm planning on interviewing for Draft Day 2007 since his sister is a woman who I support here. |

John Clayton is cool. He's such a serious strait-laced dude off camera though. He's like a robot, just waits for his cue and he starts talking. Then he stops. Mort, on the other hand, loves to talk. He'll say a lot of stuff off camera. It's always cool to hear what he has to say when the cameras aren't rolling. As for Campbell's delivery, one of my fave QBs ever had a delivery only a mother could love-Bernie Kosar. Campbell's delivery is as masterful as Michelangelo's painting of the Sistine Chapel compared to that. |

Yeah I think they have been working on him not dropping the ball so low and they'll probably continue to do so. Maybe we can get the ball coach in here to coach him up and have him hold it next to his ear hole. |
