Re: Sports Talk 980 and the Redskins
I'm sure there is some STRONG animosity remaining from the whole Triple X ESPN Radio spawn.
Well it's not like 980 even had the Redskins games to begin with. What really set things into a tailspin was when Czabe ran with Gibbs' joke a couple of years ago that he was going back to NASCAR soon, and if he didn't start winning it would be really soon. Totally kidding, but instead Czaban used it as an opportunity to call Gibbs a quitter whose heart wasn't in the Skins, etc. etc. |
Re: Sports Talk 980 and the Redskins
There is a major difference between accurate "no holds barred" reporting, and sensationalism of the Jerry Springer variety. If we get no love after the Carolina win, it's not hard to figure out which side of the fence they are on.

Re: Sports Talk 980 and the Redskins
It would help me to like him if he knew the difference between the words "indulge" and "divulge". When he was talking about the ESPN article after the game he said "You know (insert espn sport writer name here) won't indulge the player he interviewed". Come on. If you are going to be a sportscaster, at least use the appropriate words.

I caught that too, Hess. I felt embarrassed for him, as weird as that sounds. |

Me too (felt embarrassed for him). I wonder if after the show anyone mentioned it to him.... |
Re: Sports Talk 980 and the Redskins
I don't pickup 980 in Richmond, but do hear Czaban on 950 and BM on Comcast.
Alot of the critizism is well deserved IMO. When they win the right way they do praise them (like last year). But let's face it this organization has made alot of mistakes and does things differently than the 30 other teams around the nfl. So, when things go wrong they are going to take heat. Don't get me wrong, we played well Sunday, but we could have easily lost that game. We recovered 4 fumbles in the 1st half & got redeemed by a BAD call on Peppers. Hey we get bad calls all the time so we'll take it. I'm all for calling it like it is and not sugar coating anything and i think that's what these guys do. Remember that they are all skins fans who want to see something good. |
Re: Sports Talk 980 and the Redskins
Mitchell has talked on the air how he was pissed when the Skins let him go. I guess he felt he shoulda been one of those guys like Darrell Green who stayed with them for his entire career. He needs to get over it. I think it does sorta make him rip on them more because he sorta chews on that resentment he felt when the skins delt him to philly.

I remember that mess. Gibbs made a totally innocent comment in jest, and dopes in the media ran with it. Totally ridiculous. |
Re: Sports Talk 980 and the Redskins
I listen to both online occasionally. I'll take 980's occasional critisism over Larry Michael's constant ass-kissing any day. XXX is to the Skins what Fox News is to the White House.

Re: Sports Talk 980 and the Redskins
they talk bad b/c the hate to see the skins losing and playing badly

Re: Sports Talk 980 and the Redskins
Maybe the Sports Talk 980 group feel the same way about the Redskins that Dr. M L King Jr. felt about America. Dr. King once said
I critisize America because I love her, and want to see her stand as the moral example for the world [UNQUOTE] Maybe they're critical because they want to see the Redskins provide that staple for the NFL.

Re: Sports Talk 980 and the Redskins
Anyone ever notice the negative vibe on Sports Talk 980 towards the Redskins? All of their shows always rip the Redskins even after a win. B. Mitch, Czab and Doc Walker are real hard on the Redskins. Doc Walker kills Gibbs on a lot of stuff. A lot of it is well deserved and good comentary. Today they reported Clark only wanted a 1.5 million signing bonus. Skins only offered him $750k. And to think they gave AA 10 mil. I'm wondering if the negative commentary has to do with Snyder's new radio station?
