I wonder who Miami's replacement will be.....
For the right $ it could be saunders or williams. I cant imagine they are thrilled with how things are going at redskins park. |

I don't imagine Miami's thrilled with them right now either. |
Re: Saban headed to Alabama
Saunders would actually be a pretty nice fit for Miami. With Ronnie Brown at RB and McMichael at TE......they could do alot in his offense. That beings said...they still need to figure out the QB situation.

Re: Saban headed to Alabama
That's really bad. It's not like the Dolphins were in the playoff hunt or anything. Why not just come out and say this is a decision I will make at the end of the year? He could have handled this much better....

From what I've heard he didn't like living in Miami, he and his wife prefer a place like Alabama. He also just preferred the college environment. He's the latest successful college coach unable to succeed in the NFL so I guess the bigger question is has he shut the door for other college coaches who may want a chance in the NFL? Will NFL owners continue to consider college coaches-guys like Petrino, Ferentz, Fridge? |

Yeah, Saban was to be the perfect choice for going from college to pro b/c of his background (unlike Spurrier, Saban had coached at the NFL level). If I am an owner, my thinking is "If Saban can't cut it, then there isn't a college coach out there that can." I think that every 10-15 years, there is a push to hire successful college coaches and then, after 2 or three failed experiments, owners shy away from them for awhile. Just as college football teams/players are a significant step down from the pros (regardless of what TMC's "Friend" thinks), the challenges of NFL head coaching are far more intense and the job security much less secure than college coaching. As an aside, many pundits have noted that college football HAS become more complex as many teams have adopted more complex passing games. IMO, all this has done is raise the bar at the professional level. The most complex college systems are the baseline for the pro game and the jumping off point for college players and coaches. Better and now (football) smarter college players are filtered through a pro system that can start at a more advanced level. In essence, a better college game has simply meant that a better, faster, more complex pro game has evolved. (Run that one past "Friend" Malcolm). I imagine that we have another college coach or two but that, when they fail, we won't see any more direct hires from college for another 10-15 years (I'll be back to gloat in 2017). |
Re: Saban headed to Alabama
HAHAHA. Friend hasn't had anything to say to me after what I sent to him yesterday. He just got all flustered.

Re: Saban headed to Alabama
I guess Vick isn't the only "coach killer" out there.

How can you trust a guy like that now?

So much for his denials that he wasn't leaving Miami.
Is he taking Czaban with him? |
Re: Saban headed to Alabama
If I was a Tide fan I think I'd be sort of pissed that they just spent all that money to rent him for a few seasons. He might be capable of another quick turnaround, but he'll probably be gone by '09 when a bigger, better deal comes along.
It would be 2012 if history serves as any indicator. 5 years with the Spartans, 5 years with the LSU Tigers. Just because he only spent 2 years in Miami (a team in turnmoil every year) doesn't mean he'll do it in College, when he has never spent less than 5 years at any college team. |

Things change DAILY people. I'm sure he didn't lie when he said he wasn't going to go...because he said that talks broke down. They obviously got talks going again, and something looked good to him. Can't fault a guy for that. I wouldn't leave my company now, but if someone offered me double my current salary, I'd leave. |
Re: Saban headed to Alabama
Best move Saban could have made. No salary cap to deal with, no over paid primadonna athletes to deal with and most importantly..................no high ass Ricky Williams to deal with! If he has players that don't want to conform to his way of doing things, he could pull their scholarships. Not to mention the dough. Great move!
