Re: Irvin no longer with ESPN
Didn't really care one way or the other about Irvin when he played. He was TO before TO came into the league minus the media aired insults to teammates and coaches. I do think he is one of the most overrated players of the last ten years and in no way is he better than Monk. As far as a commentator if you heard him once or twice you knew what his stance would be on most issues and that is why he wore thin.
Aikman is a good color guy (one of the few, I mean Simms' Spotlight? who is his target audience, 10 year olds who have never heard of the NFL?) Moose is probably the worst and not because he used to block for Emmit Smith but because he thinks he still has to kiss up to Norv Turner, Jerry Jones or anyone with a star on their helmet! Jimmy Johnson doesn't bend over backwards to kiss Dallas butt like Darryl Johnston. |
Re: Irvin no longer with ESPN
TAFKAS any insider info on why he is no longer with ESPN?
|
Re: Irvin no longer with ESPN
Good, glad they caned his butt! Now him and TO can have plenty of time to spend together. Bring on TUNA FISH to take the spot of DOPE HEAD. Get rid of one EX COWGIRL bring on the next. The TUNA you can at least understand, good move ESPN.

Re: Irvin no longer with ESPN
I must say one of the reasons I liked watching all the ESPN pre game shows was becasue of Irvin. I think he's funny as hell and real good on TV. He was the type of player that if he was not on your team you could not stand him. Kind of like B. Mitch. He says some dumb shit but that makes it interesting. He's was a nice change up from Jaws and Jackson. So what if he likes to party. I think it's funny as hell that he goes in hotel rooms and does coke and ecsatsy w/ strippers. It makes good headlines. He's not a role model but not everyone's perfect. Did anyone believe him last year when he got caught with a pipe in his car? Said he was hiding it from a friend? C'mon!
why am I not surprised that you would find that funny? |
Re: Irvin no longer with ESPN
In a stunning twist, Art Monk will replace him!
just kidding... |

It's funny becasue I go back and forth w/ my Cowboy friends. They tease me about Dexter so I give it back to them about Irvin. |

Irvins contract was up and ESPN chose not to resign him. I think it had a lot to do with the comments he made about Tony Romo's ethnicity on the Dan patrick show way back on Nov. 20. |

I was in Daytona the past few days so no, not really. I do know that his contract was up and they were looking to make some changes. I'll ask the NFL guys on Tuesday when I go back to work. |
Re: Irvin no longer with ESPN
I'm actually upset about this because I've always enjoyed Michael Irvin as a commentator. I think the Sunday NFL Countdown crew was great when it was Irvin, Young, Boomer, and TJ.

Re: Irvin no longer with ESPN
Actually, this creates a problem for Dan Patrick. Who will step up to fill in the large block of ass-kissin' time vacated by Michael Irvin
|
Re: Irvin no longer with ESPN
I thought Irvin was OK. Funny at times. Though I hated how he and TO had that ridiculous unspoken bond.
I like Aikman a lot. I can't stand Moose as a commentator; for one thing he's way too negative. He puts guys down left and right. For every positive thing he says about somebody, there are 10 negative things. He's the Captain Bringdown of any football game. Plus he raises his voice a lot and it just seems shrill and annoying. |
Re: Irvin no longer with ESPN
I liked Irvin primarily because he was different, and he was real. He was always appeared to be enjoying himself, laughing and slapping around with the guys. I liked that, it became more of a conversation with four knowledgeable football guys and Sean Salisbury rather than the same old stale pregame show. I'll miss his energy.
Once I found out the HOF announcements would be made the same weekend as the Super Bowl was being held in Miami, I actually joked with my brother that Michael Irvin might not make it to work on Sunday. If I was in my hometown, and I just found out that I made it to the Super Bowl, and all my "U" brothers were in town to enjoy the SB. I mean even I got flyers about all the parties that were going on down in Miami for SB week, plus the added perspective of having been there in '99, and I knew it was going to be trouble for Irvin. Jacked up will never be the same to me... |
Re: Irvin no longer with ESPN
I am not surprised at all. This is pure speculation on my part, but did anyone see Irvin on the remote set in Miami during Superbowl week. His speech was faster than usual, his mood was elevated (more than usual), he was more intrusive than usual, cutting off others who were talking, and he looked like someone who was coked up. I remember thinking that he looked high at the time. I think that is why he was not re-signed. Of course, this is my own opinion.
