Leonard Davis has played guard before in this league, the switch wouldn't be a big deal at all.
Leonard Davis has played guard before in this league, the switch wouldn't be a big deal at all.
Just came off the Cards site he played three years at guard before moving to tackle. The question will he move back to guard and can we get him over the Boys,Jets,Giants and Cards with out really over paying? Did the Dockery signing do that already?

Of course the ridiculous Dockery deal just upped the ante for Davis, hopefully we can still get him at a "reasonable" price, whatever that means anymore.
Molinaro is probably better suited for the inside but I doubt he's really a starter, after that who knows, would love to draft one but we know that ain't happening.
molinaro isn't a redskin right now. he's a FA, and he's not that good.
What I just read Justin Blalock out of Texas may be the best of this years draft. The 6-3 320 guard has a mean streak. Others are Ben Grubbs 6-3 311 auburn,Arron Sears 6-3 319 Tenn, and Andy Alleman 6-4 305 Akron. But could these kids more right in to the starting line up?
grubbs would be a big upgrade over dock (maybe not the first year, but after that). don't know enough about blalock...

Matty, does Todd Wade have any experience at the guard position? He's a player I would like to see us hold onto if he could be resigned, and would consider moving from tackle. I know he want's to be a starter, and thought it may be an opportunity for him. Don't know if the coaching staff has considered it though.

See, I think THAT'S a good idea. He wants to start: problem solved. We need a big body: problem solved. He won't ask for the ridiculous contract that is typical of this offseason: problem solved.

The Redskins are currently targeting Montrae Holland and Leonard Davis.

But, here again, wouldn't Davis cost too much?

Thats why they're also targeting Holland. Personally I would rather have Holland, we need to save that cap space to resign Cooley and Taylor.

Holland has good size, initial quickness and foot speed. He has good upper body strength he has above average agility, balance and body control. He plays with good effort and a mean streak. He more consistent as a pass protector than is a run blocker. He does a good job on double teams and combination blocks when he has help but struggles when he has to block one-on-one vs a 3-tech. He does not come off the ball, stops his feet at contact and he can not hit the movement against one gap penetrators. He did a good job on his pull/trap and if he locks on he will pancake you. He has good leg drive but his not consistent keeping his feet moving and he struggles to get movement at the point of attack. He will try to position block you before he has established position. He will lose leverage and get cross faced at the POA. He is not a consistent second level blocker. He does not always take the proper angles off the ball and lacks ideal speed to keep up with fast linebackers in this league. He is good in a confined area but he struggles in space. As a pass protector, he has improved. He has good quick set, he is a knee bender most of the time and he has a good punch. He has good foot speed and lateral movement to counter double moves. He did an excellent job of picking up and passing off line stunts. He was effective when sliding and mirroring but he was not consistent when he had to block a 3-tech. one on one. Overall, Holland is raw young player who is getting better and improving with experience. He is not as consistent as you would like at this time but he has ability and needs technique work. He is an adequate starter and a very good back-up.

Re: So now what at Guard?

Heres what the Post says:

Priority 4: Offensive Lineman, Tight Ends and Defensive Lineman: The Redskins have interest in free agent guard Montrae Holland (New Orleans), sources said, and he mirrors Dockery's body type and run-blocking skills. Washington also needs a tight end to complement Chris Cooley, and sources said Cincinnati's Reggie Kelly has piqued the Redskins' interest. They have negotiated with TE Todd Yoder, who spent the most of 2006 with Washington, as well. The Redskins are dedicated to strengthening an aging defensive line in the draft, particularly with a pass-rushing end, and are not expected to go after Patrick Kerney (Atlanta), the best free agent at his position. However, should the Giants opt to shop Michael Strahan, the Redskins would be in a position to make a play for him, sources said. Of course, the chances of him being traded -- especially to a division rival -- are remote.

And younger too. Picking up a young free agent starter, now that's something new.

sad maybe it is...but its alot of fun seeing the talent we sign every offseason and how they dont seem to pan out except when running a franchise on Madden football. But please by all means whatever it takes to get smoot back make it happen.

Re: So now what at Guard?

If Gaines Adams is gone I would love to see us trade down to the mid to late first round and pick up a second or third rounder. We could still pick up a very solid pass rusher like Tim Crowder from Texas or Charles Johnson from Georgia and also get a starting quality guard like Benn Grubbs from Auburn or Manny Ramirez from Texas Tech. Dock leaving could be a blessing in disguise since he would have demanded big money and this draft is very deep at guard.
