Re: Lions interested in Springs
Detroit better look elsewhere. Springs will be back.

Re: Lions interested in Springs
I thought Coach Gibbs was considering moving Springs to Safety? He will seriously have to consider that because Prioleau, Fox and Taylor need one more guy and if Travis Fisher is signed, good bye Rodgers as a starter. Farewell Ade Jimoh.
A corner crew of Springs, Rogers, and Smoot is a good start. I don't see how we could afford to lose Springs now that Bly went to Denver. Let's just hope the guy can get healthy. A 100% healthy Springs could help turn this D around in a real hurry.
i agree. when springs is healthy, he is a top 5 cb. |

Goodbye Rogers? Even if Fisher is signed he is the 4th corner. |

That's right. Rodgers will not start this year. That position needs depth. I guarantee the Redskins sign two more CB's including Fisher. Wright, Jimoh, and the other bum from San Francisco are out of here. ( Mike Rumph) Remember Springs still may play as a Safety. |

Remember Springs still may play as a Safety.
I don't buy the Springs as safety yet. He is our best corner so he will be on the other team's best receiver next year, especially if it is his last year here which is very possible. If Rogers doesn't start it is because Smoot beats him out. |
Re: Lions interested in Springs
One thing Coach Gibbs does not do is repeat the same mistake with the same player. Springs has suffered from hamstring and groin injuries last year. He's not the same player he was his first year with us with 5 INTs and 5 sacks. I could see him playing the position because he doesn't have the stamina and he has played the position before with the Seahawks and Buckeyes. That's why they considered him for the position.

Re: Lions interested in Springs
Now that Gibbs says not to expect much more in free agency, does anyone know our cap scenario as is? It sounds like we're under the cap w/all of the restuctures we've done & that we can afford to keep Springs at his present salary.

Re: Lions interested in Springs
welcome!
i agree with the whole springs is our best CB, why force him to play safety crowd. i'd put rogers at #3 (where he belongs) and see how things work out from there. |
Re: Lions interested in Springs
welcome, and springs stays put. but with smoot aboard, gives the skins a better option if he gets hurt again( which is likely)

Welcome redskin37. I too would like to see Springs restructure and end the speculation as to whether he stays or goes. Until a definate decision is made on him, we can't get a true guage on the composition of our secondary. |
Re: Lions interested in Springs
Springs stays at CB. In years prior to last year, he played in most (but not all) games every season. Last year, since they decided he needed surgery shortly before the season, he (automatically) missed a bunch of the season, just due to the missed diagnosis.
After that, especially with the problems that they had with the secondary, they had to get him back in the games. His original injury was reasonably well healed, but I would imagine that he hadn't been able to do the normal work that toughens up the body to be ready to play. As a result, he suffered other injuries after his return. I noticed that when he was in the game the defense usually played much better, especially after the other players got into the "rhythm" of having him in the game. I feel it was (by far) the most costly injury of the last season. I would expect him to play his usual 13-14 games during the regular season. |
