exactly i would like to have him for a reasonable price he's an upgrade over what we have now
If we get Petigout to play guard, he won't be the road grader that Doc was, but he'll probably be better at pulling on counter running plays and at pass blocking. Sign him to a lesser deal, than more power to our front office finally taking a prudent approach to free agency. This year has been a nice departure from The Danny making every guy he signed in the past among the richest at their positions. I really like the defensive signings so far (Fletcher and Smoot) at a fair value. Add a stud DE in the draft, and this D has a chance to return to top-10 as it was in Gibbs's first two years. |

well right now, we've got pucillo and a bunch of guys that might not start in NFL europe for depth :/. |
Re: Skins interested in Luke Petitgout
Petitgout's good, but you'd think there would be a more cost friendly option out there.

Re: Skins interested in Luke Petitgout
Folks, take a deep breath here.
Molinaro resigned with the Skins for the veteran's minimum. That is the kind of player you get for that kind of contract. Luke Pettitgout is not a future Hall of Fame player by any means; he's a good and serviceable and durable - until he broke his damned leg last year - offensive tackle. Assuming his leg is healing properly and he's not one false step from a wheelchair, he will command a LOT MORE than a veteran minimum salary. Stinchcomb, Carlisle and Reuben Brown are offensive linemen who are free agents - unless I missed that they have signed on somewhere already. Pettitgout is no better nor worse than any of those guys. And I'd be leery of Reuben Brown because he's got to be at least 35 years old and probably 37. The choice is a young guy who's never started much in the league or paying more than the vet minimum for one of these kinds of guys. |
Re: Skins interested in Luke Petitgout
SC, I think you're confusing Molinaro with Pucillo
|
Re: Skins interested in Luke Petitgout
You're right. Pucillo - - not Molinaro. My error. :benched:
But the point remains. Luke Pettitgout - and those other offensive linemen I mentioned - are going to command more than a vet minimum salary. |
Re: Skins interested in Luke Petitgout
Guard is the easiest position in football. There's a reason that until now they are the lowest paid position players. Ideally we find a way to draft a guy like 3rd round and just stick him in there. Moving down from 6 could do this.
We still need a depth guy though. Someone who can play anywhere on the line at a decent level. I wish Wade were actually an option because he'd be perfect. In fact he is probably too good. He'll be starting somewhere next year I would guess. |
Re: Skins interested in Luke Petitgout
Here's some names to chew on as possible replacements:
Ruben Brown (Bears) - yes he's old but the guy can still play, he would be a good stop gap. Cosey Coleman (Browns) - a lot of starting experience but not very mobile or quick. Zach Piller (Titans) - has some injury concerns but he's a quality run blocker. Rick DeMulling (Lions) - athletic lineman, excels at pulling and trapping, not very stout in the running game, lacks awareness. Chris Villarrial (Bills) - probably on his last legs as a starter but he's got good size, strength, and experience. |
isnt he a tackle? lets get a guard to play guard. i dont understand everyone wanting to convert players to different positions
Remember Raliegh McKenzie? He could play any position on the line. In the Age of Injuries, you have to have a guy like that. It's not out of the question to ask an offensive lineman, especially one of Petitgout's experience to shuffle around some. |
Re: Skins interested in Luke Petitgout
Petitgout went to high school about twenty miles from me. He has maintained his southern DE roots despite his moderate success in the league. If the Redskins can sign him, I'd be delighted.

Update from JLC
Redskins Insider "Petitgout is in the building, there for a free agent visit. Former left tackle for the Giants would be moved to guard to replace Dockery should he sign. Had some knee problems but the word is he passed Tampa's physical over the weekend. Also, he recently dropped his old agents and hired, you guessed it, Drew Rosenhaus, which never hurts when it comes to The Snyder." |
Re: Skins interested in Luke Petitgout
Interesting, if healthy he's an upgrade over Dockery.
2006 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc. Grade: 74 | Key Alert: None Comment: Petitgout is consistent, durable and experienced. He has some versatility, having played both tackle positions and guard in the NFL. He is tall, rangy and has good first-step quickness. His is smart and has surprisingly good feet for his size. He understands blocking angles and knows how to work defenders. He usually plays in control, rarely overextends and can handle combination moves. He is adept at cut blocking when necessary. He moves laterally with ease and has some natural ability to change directions. He can mirror and slide with most ends and run them past the pocket with his long arms. He is effective on pull and trap blocks and on the second level. His footwork and frame help him close down separation and maintain contact with defenders. But Petitgout lacks ideal power and athleticism. He can get a little upright, and he won't move the pile in the run game. He has some problems against big, strong two-gap linemen. He lacks lower-body explosiveness and isn't a great finisher. He isn't quite quick enough when isolated on the edge. |

Even so, I feel that this year out of all years, we are in a STRONG position to trade down to fill TWO areas of need with elite players. We could get a GREAT DT/DE or DE/OG or any combination you want of the two. |
Re: Skins interested in Luke Petitgout
I'm trying, but I just can't get too pumped about Petitgout.
