Re: Rethinking Briggs

According to NFL.com a decision on this trade may be reached tomorrow. Angelo also said that they have not received any other offers for Briggs. Seeing how Briggs has said on several occasions that he would hold out, and that he will never play another snap for Bears again it seems that this deal might get done.

I don't like it and I don't think we should cut Washington if it does go down. I agree with the majority in believing that we need d-line help above all else. The only good thing I see with this trade is that at 31 we could get one of the top guards in the draft..... but that would still leave us with one of the weakest d-lines in the league!

I think that the only thing that will stop this deal is if the FO has gotten excited about the prospect of trading up with the Browns and getting Johnson.

As soon as you said "we would cut Marcus Washington" you lost me.

That is about as idiotic a statement as is humanly possible by a Redskins fan. Do you watch our team play on Sundays?

Re: Rethinking Briggs
You are right on target. Everyone in Chicago is panicing saying he will sit out the season. No player in the history of the Franchise Tag has ever missed a season or even one game. If anyone thinks Briggs is sitting out 10 games and losing $4.5M they are crazy. He can't tank it because he is looking for a massive payout. The funny thing is that on radio interviews he has said he would come back for a big contract. Draft choices are great, but give me a 2 time pro-bowl player that's 26 with no injury history
I know he didn't have the "Franchise Tag" per se, but I still remember when Bears Safety Todd Bell sat out an entire season because of a contract dispute with the team.

Love the username

I wouldn't mind seeing MW cut, he didn't do much for us last year. Time to move on.

Thank god there are some sane fans... Cut Washington?? first off that guy has been amazing for us an dis the heart of that defence... Not to mention when I went to the game this year I bought a Washington Jersey and have to at least get one year while he is playing.. lol..

Damn Matty, between this comment and the whole "Dan Wilkinson can still be a beast" remark, I've gotta assume you're just laying on the sarcasm nice and thick for April Fool's Day....

Certainly, we wouldn't cut MW prior to this season. If his play continues to decline though, he's probably not worth keeping around after this year.

Here's hoping he's dominant again this year.

Re: Rethinking Briggs

Yeah, that's where I thought the Marcus Washinton comment originally came from. There's word that he could have a serious injury, so it follows that Briggs could be his eventual replacement.

If he's not suffering from a serious injury, then by no means do you cut him.

Can we agree though that a player shouldn't be kept if his performance doesn't warrant it? Is it beyond reason to think that this could someday happen to Marcus Washington?

I like the guy, but come on, it's not like he'll join Sammy Baugh as the only other Redskin to have his jersey number retired.

Re: Rethinking Briggs

the only way i am on board with this trade is if it is as follows...our #6 pick for their #31 and lance briggs. no if ands or buts. I think adding players that an article in the post suggests is stupid. the bears want the pot sweetened...by adding marshall, macintosh, or goldston. I think although marshall isnt big enough to be your every down mlb he is still an asset to our team i think he filled in occasionally for lavar..so he can play all lb positions and macintosh..i just dont think we know what we have there and he cost to much to draft and as far as for goldston i think he was the best player we drafted last year. Well the only one who really made an impact.
