For the record, I would agree that D-line help should be our first priority

Re: Skins stuck at No. 6?

There is always the option of taking the best available player and then trading him outright for a player that we really want and need, maybe an additional pick as well. That way the number 6 pick still gets paid like a number 6 pick. But now we have bargaining power for a player that we want and possibly an additional pick.

So in every one's opinion there is no DL in the draft worthy of a top 10 selection?

The problem here is Greg Blache doesn't really believe in pressure from the ends.. he'd rather bottle up the middle and pressure from other areas.
I think you're right that we need to go DL, but I think to pick one at 6 would not be necessary. Personally, I would like to trade down and go after Okoye, and if we don't go Dl, Landry.

And I do know my shit.

I think, in my opinion at least, there are several good lineman but none particularly stand head and shoulders above the rest. For example DT Okoye is seen as top 10 pick, while DT Justin Harrell is seen as a bottom of the first round pick. I think the gap talent wise is much smaller than that

Okoye is the best prospect on Dline but he needs time to further develope, Landry will start and be a force the first game of the season. Landry will also motovate Taylor to be a better player.

Interesting point. I don't think that, as a general matter, the talent gap between a top 10 pick and top 30 pick is that significant. IMHO the trade value chart is all out of whack. Didn't Jimmy Johnson create it? If so, that figures.

Re: Skins stuck at No. 6?

Heres what I'd like to see. If we stay at 6 then draft Okoye. Personally I don't see him going past the Dolphins with the 9th pick so trading down with Buffalo and expecting Amobi to fall down to 12 is out of the question.

If the Falcons trade up with us to snag Landry then same situation applies (Draft Amobi). In that case we can use the 2nd round pick to either take a pass rush specilist (a la Lamar Woodley or Anthony Spencer) or one of the elite Guard prospects (a la Aaron Sears or Justin Blalcok). And in a world that doesn't exist take Merriweather if he falls all the way to 40 or 42.

If we trade down with Buffalo then we're going to have to decide between Anderson and Cariker. Personally I'm starting to like Cariker. Hes a hard worker that is also very stout against the run. In fact he reminds a little of Luis Castillo and Aaron Smith (even though both are 3-4 DE's). Oh yeah, one more thing about Cariker, not only does he make big hits, he wraps up.

Re: Skins stuck at No. 6?

Those are all very plausible trade scenarios and ones that would work out quite nicely. If we could indeed parlay our 6th pick for Okoye and a guy like Woodley, I would be estatic. It would be nice to add two young D-linemen - aging D-line instantly solved.

AmobiOkoyeAmobiOkoyeGoodCallBangAmobiOkoye.

Remember, just because the Redskins don't have anything on the table now doesn't mean they are smokescreening or won't have anything on the table in three weeks from now.

The "correct" move (As GTripp has decided--take it with at least a grain of salt) would be to pick Okoye at 6. To me, this is a no brainer selection. He's probably going to be one of the top 5 players drafted in the first round of this draft (along with Quinn, Thomas, Landry and Dwayne Bowe/Adams), and is going to prove a good value wherever he gets taken.

The most ideal situation would be to be able to trade down a few spots and STILL get Okoye. But the chances of being able to pull this off are rare, and the risk of the one player who could really help us being taken doesn't outweigh the reward of an extra draft pick or two.
