Re: Firstborns: we're smarter!
The eldest children in families tend to develop higher I.Q.’s than their siblings, researchers are reporting today, in a large study that could settle more than a half-century of scientific debate about the relationship between I.Q. and birth order.
Link: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/22/science/22sibling.html?hp
Not that I am opposing the thought here, but my IQ is 142, my brother's is 112. Big difference there. (oh he's the elder, I'm the middle child) My sister has a 124 IQ and she's the youngest. |

Ding Ding Ding! That's the sound of your own bell ringing. |
Re: Firstborns: we're smarter!
I've definitely heard about this in twins, the first born is normally dominant, but interesting in siblings. I'm too lazy to read this, but is a nature or a nurture type thing? My older brother died when he was 5 and I was just a baby, so would I be effected by that?

That's the sound of your own bell ringing.
Maybe so, but I think it has more to do with what you make of your life. Maybe in that link it shows that you become more lazy if you have an older sibling. I know in my case, I used my brother as spring board...he was the bar in which I had to surpass. I tried twice as hard to beat him at everything, including grades. In fact, my friends that have an older sibling felt the same way, so I am unsure of how accurate that test is. |

Isn't Peyton Manning the middle child?

See, that's what I'm saying...I don't think the test is accurate. In my observations, the middle child is smarter more often than not. |
Re: Firstborns: we're smarter!
yes he did
I think you meant, yes he is. By the way, his older brother kinda sucks at everything. |

No biggy, we've all done it. I'm trying to think of other brothers in sports, but I am failing to recall people. I know that Jose was Ozzie's younger brother, but only by a minute, and Jose was considerably better. Pedro Martinez was Ramon's younger brother, and Pedro is one of the best pitchers ever to live. Of course that is sports, not intelligence, but whatever. |
