Re: ESPN: Jets running back Martin to announce retirement this week
So he and Marshall Faulk go into the Hall together? What about Tiki? Do all three go in together? If you had to pick one to go, which one is it?
I go with Faulk. Better all-around player out of the 3, NFL MVP and he did for years being a workhorse and catching out of the backfield. Barber just started in the last few years, and Martin really didnt catch the ball as much. But all will go in: Faulk and Martin and Bettis go in together and I think Barber will be like Art Monk. |
Re: ESPN: Jets running back Martin to announce retirement this week
I would agree with that. The only sad thing is Martin had his best year in 2004 at the age of 30. (Also his last full season) If he could have stayed healthy a few more years who knows how many yards he would have gained.
Does anyone know how many yards Emmitt Smith had when he was 30?
12,566 cause he turned 30 before the 1999 season began, You dont count that season. |

Always rooted for him and the Jets to make the SB for the AFC. Cool guy, probably too cool, in that he stuck around NY when he should have left to be on a contender. Great career, but no ring.

At least he played for one. Barry Sanders had an outstanding career but didnt make it to the super bowl. |
Re: ESPN: Jets running back Martin to announce retirement this week
He's by far my favorite running back. He is truly decent and genuine. The league has lost one of its most respectable players.

1) Marshall Faulk - head and shoulders above Martin and Tiki. Better stats than both, playoff success, SB ring, agruably the main attraction of the "Greatest Show on Turf". If you have to pick one, Faulk is it. 2) Martin - quiet consistency, solid back for 10 years. As others have said he will probably get "Monked". 3) Tiki - Excellent back for about six years, but what other options have the Giants had in that time? Fumble issues for about 5 years at 8+ per year. I don't think any Giants fans want to remember SB XXXV. I don't think he makes the HoF. |
Re: ESPN: Jets running back Martin to announce retirement this week
Tiki's numbers are Hall worthy, and coupled with the fact he played in NY and will continue to maintain a high profile in the media I think he'll get in eventually.

Great point. It's a shame though that the media types have almost all the power on HoF balloting. When I made my first post and joined the Warpath, it was from outrage at Monk not being inducted this past HoF class and I just had to vent somewhere. I would like to see a more balanced approach to the HoF balloting with living HoF members and maybe a committee of current and former players/coaches. To me their opinions on who should be in the HoF carries a lot more weight than a bunch of media types. |
Re: ESPN: Jets running back Martin to announce retirement this week
He was on the Mike & mike show today. He wants to become an owner of an NFL team. He also talked about just playing football and not doing all that other stuff guy's do when they score, make a first down, long run, etc... no dancing around for him. He did not knock players for doing that but said it was not his style and he wanted to present himself in a manner that would be consistant with how an owner would act. He has always had the dream of owning a team and he may have mentioned a team or so he was interested in because I missed part of the interview.

yep, he was just on ESPN and said that he is in the works of becoming an owner. He said he was hoping to be able to announce the team today but he can't yet.
