This kid will be on the field starting week one, no doubt.
Do you really feel Gibbs will cave after he already said no rookie will start on this team? |

Re: Landry to Start Opening Day?
Just to clarify, what Gibbs said was:
"You'd love to have a guy who can make an immediate impact," Gibbs said. "But to be quite truthful, you look at our football team, where could a player step in here right now and say: 'I'm taking over'? Where is that? That makes us feel good. I don't feel panicked that we have to take any one thing. It's hard to say that somebody would just step into any position right now.
http://www.redskinswarpath.com/nfl-draft-central/17978-ap-gibbs-doubts-any-draftee-could-3.html |
Re: Landry to Start Opening Day?
Landry definitely needs to be starting from day one to build that chemistry with Sean Taylor. Pierson Prioleau is a solid safety, and it was a real shame to see what happened to him last year, but there is no doubt in my mind that LaRon Landry is better than Prioleau.

Re: Landry to Start Opening Day?
Honestly in a couple years I wouldn't be surprised if Landry churns out better stats than what Sean Taylor put out.
|
Re: Landry to Start Opening Day?
I'm glad to see that Landry is rising up the ranks already. I can't remember the last time a rookie was ready to be on the first team this early.

Re: Landry to Start Opening Day?
Even if he doesn't technically start he will still be on the field more than anyone else. They might just keep him out the first series because that is the way GW is. However, i do think he will start and it isn't all that big of a deal. Just because Taylor didn't start doesn't mean he wasn't the best. We just need Laron badly right now and it wouldn't make sense for Prioleau to be playing longer than him.
Anyways Laron has been the first string player for a few weeks on the skins depth chart. |
Re: Landry to Start Opening Day?
Good to hear, I'm really getting wound up waiting for week 1, and this is just getting me more pumped. I'll probably have a stroke during opening kickoff.

Re: Landry to Start Opening Day?
Landry came out of college very NFL ready after being a 4 year starter at LSU.
I definitely think he's more polished than Taylor was coming out. |

I would put UGA in a similar class as far as the level of their defensive play, although LSU is more pressure based and Georgia plays more coverage. Look at Golston. A worker bee at Georgia who got no national pub but played well as a rookie and continues to impress. Landry is definitely RFPT. |
Re: Landry to Start Opening Day?
I was really hoping we'd get a DE with our first pick, but there wasn't any in the draft you could justify taking with the #6 pick the way you can justify taking Landry.
He, as of now at least, is the real deal. |
