Harrington wasn't the only QB bust of that draft. Patrick Ramsey and David Carr were also selected in the 1st round that year. So many factors go into a QB successfully transitioning from college to pros, and much of it is falling into an offensive system that is a good fit. Perhaps Bobby Petrino is what Harrington needed all along.
I wouldnt write David Carr off either. He might have landed on a really good oppertunity in Car., and my heart will never write Ramsey off.
You are judged by win & losses. The ONLY way your getting any "props" in this league is to WIN.
You also have to take into account that Atlanta was a team built for Vick, a mobile QB who could evade the blitz. They used a light versatile line under Alex Gibbs to help in the running game which isn't exactly ideal for a pocket passer. Also though they i invested a lotta picks in WR's, none of them have panned out thus far so its not like Harrington is exactly surrounded with talent. Given all that and the fact that Petrino is a new coach, I think you can't really judge him on wins and losses this year (maybe next year). I mean imagine if ppl had done that for JC based on the games he started last year. In this case, you have to go on his stats and his overall play/feel for the game. Unfortunately when it becomes clear later this year that Vick's career in Atlanta is over, I think Falcons fans will be too impatient and will call for a big name FA or draft pick to address the QB situation. Too bad for Joey.

Agreed. If Joey has those same types of numbers at the end of the year, I will eat crow (if I am not dead from a heart attack). As others have noted, it's a long season. The only game I saw with him was in Week 1, when he threw 2 picks, got sacked 6 times, and had a QB rating of 61.8 Granted, he had a few nice games since then, but we can't crown him off of 2-3 appearances - especially when you consider his track record.

I figured that Byron Leftwich would be about ready to take his place about now.

Maybe that's what is motivating him. It's not like he had anyone to push him anywhere else.

I'll bet that leash will be very short though, if Harrington has a real bad game, I think they'll put Leftwich in just for the curiosity sake of it. Harrington best keep it up!

Harrington had a real bad game. Way to throw a pick for a seventy yard TD to give the other team the margin of victory. The 140 passing yards was also quite impressive.

Have any Pro-Bowl level QB's come out of that draft?

The QB with the most success from that draft is probably Ronald Curry....who is, of course, a WR for the Raiders now.
