Re: Clemens to start for NY on Sunday
Correction- He has a better arm than Pennington. He still doesn't have the leadership or experience. I say we bring the house and fluster him early. We've had plenty of success with blitz packages in the past with GW, why not give it a whirl this weekend? The Jets flat out stink. They have an awful defense and a worse offense. They just got swept by the Bills and couldn't score a TD at home against a bottom 5 defense. We gotta get right in a big way this weekend. Aside from Miami week 1, there is NO QUESTION this is the softest team on our schedule. I wanna grudge f... this team.
That's true to an extent. While Pennington is better with leadership and experience, it won't be hard for Clemens to surpass him in both catagories. Clemens is much more talented, and we have seen the end of the Pennington area. Changing QB's seems to have a positive effect on teams...like a shot in the arm, just what we don't need with all our injuries. |
Re: Clemens to start for NY on Sunday
They brought him in for the last two series against Buffalo yesterday and he threw two INTs. He's starting his first game. We need to make him feel us.
Williams needs to dial up some blitzes. Their pass pro has been awful this year. Time to bring the noise. This D needs to get some frustration out.
He's starting his second game and in his first he made enough plays to win the football game. If McCariens could have held onto a football, they would have tied that game and sent it into overtime. He had a great 4th quarter against the Ravens D and almost won the game. The move to Clemens is something I've been saying the Jets should do since that game, I'm not happy that it came this week... |
Re: Clemens to start for NY on Sunday
I'm not happy about it either Jdlea. Clemens might not be a better all around player than Pennington right now, but he has a much better arm. He earned a lot of respect from me from the way he played in his first career start against the Ravens. He will probably make a few bad throws next week, but overall I think he just gives the Jets more explosiveness than Pennington.

Re: Clemens to start for NY on Sunday
this move makes me nervous...clemens is a lot better than pennington!
We should still win though.
No he's not. Pennington isn't losing games for the Jets, their whole team is. They picked up a VERY good RB in Thomas Jones and can't even use him more than 15 times a game because they're always playing from behind. The fans just wanted a change of pace and at 1-7, what could it hurt? It's like when we (you people) were crying for Patrick Ramsey when we weren't winning with Brunell, Ramsey was clearly not better but losing makes fans want change. Then suddenly Brunell helped us win 6 straight and make the playoffs. :D Pennnington's a pretty good QB, smart, strong arm...just in a horrible situation. |
Re: Clemens to start for NY on Sunday
Clemens is everything that Pennington is not. However, he does not have Pennington's leadership or heart...at 1-7, the Jets are preparing for life after Pennington.
Pennnington's a pretty good QB, smart, strong arm...just in a horrible situation.
Smart yes, strong arm, not so much. He's had so many arm troubles in his career... |
Re: Clemens to start for NY on Sunday
I know this is totally off topic, but is it me or does Chad Pennington kind of look like the Micheal Myers mask?

Re: Clemens to start for NY on Sunday
I have a problem with people who don't think Chad Pennington is a good QB. His example is a little extreme, but he may be the best example of a guy who is high on all the attributes that good QBs have, is short on some of the major tools that aren't important to good quarterbacking, and puts in great production year after year.
Pennington was having a down year, yet he was still completing 68% for 6 y/a. He's been a top ten QB in this league since 2002, likely still is, and never gets credit because people would rather see a big arm than a good QB. All of this is lucky for us, because we now have a chance to confuse the Jets' QB this week and win a close one. If that same team played in any other city, Pennington would still be the QB, and his team would likely beat ours. |
Re: Clemens to start for NY on Sunday
Clemens is a pretty good quarterback prospect.
But again, that's the same deal as Campbell. He's a pretty good prospect. He isn't a good quarterback, at least not yet. I doubt he can ever be as good as Chad Pennington was though. |
