JC might turn out to be an OK and an average QB, but not an elite one. That would be a stretch. Plus, even if he does, how much difference in the contact would that make? Is that difference worth the risk?

Re: Romo gets contract extension:
.500 win? He is 12-5 as a starter, that is like .705! How many other QB's in the history of the league went 12-5 in the first 17 starts? I don't know exactly, but I will wager you can count them on one hand.
And he has only had 1 playoff game in his career. Kinda hard to judge based on 1.
without going to the internet to make sure on other guys i know philip rivers went 14-2 in his first real year so thats like .875! its just my opinion on romo based on what we've seen so far, it takes a few consistently good seasons before QBs have established themselves . . . sometimes he looks good, sometimes not so good |
I think so too. He is like Brady (not in numbers and stats) you either like him or hate him. Not like Cutler or Young or other QBs where you neither like nor dislike the guy.
I really respect you BigD, because you post using respect at a rival board. It's nothing special here, it is like that on all boards. |

The only truly elite passers in the league right now are Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, so I'd agree that Campbell will probably never reach that level, but I think you're selling him a bit short by saying he'll only be average. His only glaring issue at the moment is his short to intermediate accuracy, which can improve with experience. He already has above average poise and a cannon arm. I think he'll be a very good quarterback in time; along the same lines as Carson Palmer or Ben Roethlisberger. And as far as Romo, he'll never be in the elite class either. I think he'll be good, but if recent history is any kind of hint of the future, he looks like a choker in big games, like McNabb. |

He has enough to become a QB to take a team to the playoffs and beyond with the right team. As for Romo, I don't think he is anything like McNabb. He only had one game where he bobbled a slippery and wet ball which made the NFL do something to solve that issue. He threw 5 INTs in the Bills game and was not down on himself and got the team in a position to win the game. |

But if he fails to develop then we have another over paid player sitting on the bench. We still have a good year left to evaluate his tallent and where he is. So next year around this time would be a good time to decide if we want to extend his contract and that would be a 1 1/2 years before his current contract is up. That gives us room to still negotiate because agents like to take the sure money rather than waiting because in the NFL things can change real quickly. |

JC does not even have a full season yet under his belt yet. Why not wait until AT LEAST the end of next season and see what we have there. |

Dallas' offense has a bright future. I admit this only because you have shown some respect and deserve to be treated like a guy worthy of respect. I can't say the same for BlueStar. |

I'd still like to see him do anything of note in a big game before I put him in the VERY good category, but as much as I hate to admit it, he is a gutsy S.O.B. |

The Big D and Sand...... I like Romo as a QB. You could argue that he is the best QB in the NFC East right now. I love his pocket presence. Some people don't like it when a guy gets alot of attention, tv ads and hot chicks. But I just don't have a problem with it. The guy has waited a long time to get his chance. You only have a short period in your life to be an NFL qb. Why not take advantage of everything that goes along with it. So I'm happy for the guy for getting the $ and the attention. With that being said I hope Andre Carter knocks that silly grin off his face! |

Yes but...was Rivers in a contract year? He is still under his rookie tender. he signed a 5 or 6 year deal there and then signed his rookie tender. He has time left on his contract. Just because they went 14-2 is not a reason to renegotiate that deal with so much time left on it, no need to extend him. What is the "barometer range" of the contract and salary at the time? Guys like Manning, Romo, Bulger are all setting the standard for these guys (Rivers, Campbell etc) when it is time to renew their contracts. Matter of fact, Bulgers contract (which was signed during camp) was used as the measuring stick for Romos contract. Both contracts are very similar. Jeez, look at Jemarcus Russell in Oakland, rookie, never taken a snap, he held out in camp and got a monster 60 million dollar deal! Romo is getting paid the fair market value of what a QB of his stature should get. |
Re: Romo gets contract extension:
Brady and Manning are in a different league. Put any other QB on their teams and the teams are not the dominant forces they are, so you can't compare them. That being said I think that Romo is absolutely in the next tier. I think that JC could be there at some point. Romo and JC both need help from the rest of their team but right now Romo is getting it and JC isn't.
