Re: Be Happy
Yes, be happy! After all, Patrick Ramsey is no longer a Redskins QB.
We let them get up on us by 14 points and our team did not drop their heads and showed the will to go get the win. Most people have said it was an ugly win but I think its the opposite as we took their best shots and then came back to win the game. The only big let down was not getting in for a few of those TDs when we had the chances.
Getting down early and considering the debacle of last week this team could have easily mailed it in. But they kept chipping away and fought back. I definitely think we need to give them some credit for that. |
Re: Be Happy
1.) We won, nuff said
2) We could be seeing the beginning of an improved offense. JC missed a couple throws he should hit, but our line did its job. Hopefully we see both progress in the coming weeks. |
Re: Be Happy
Of course we're all happy with the win, and indeed, style points count for zilch in the NFL. But to the extent that the sentiment in this thread is that a win alone should end the discussion, I don't think that's fair. Look, what is every sports fan hoping for each year? A championship, no doubt. But even new Yankee owner Hank S. admitted last week that to expect it each and every year is nuts. So, knowing this, the legitimate hope each year is that your team will make the playoffs, and/or beat its rivals. But right below this hope is that your team won't be humiliated, which is exactly what happened last weekend. That 52-7 loss wasn't just any loss, it was the 3rd worst in franchise history. Sure, it was to a team that might actually go 16-0, but no opponent of that team has lost by that many points. So, why is this relevant to a potential discussion of yesterday's performance? Because of what yesterday's performance might say about the possibility of another humiliating loss this season. We couldn't get into the end zone against a 1-7 team with one of the worst defenses in football until the 4th quarter. The Skins needed overtime to beat this team, much like they needed overtime to beat the 0-8 Dolphins. It was just the same type of victory they had experienced over the Dolphins, and the Eagles, and the Cardinals, the type that ultimately should have foreshadowed the absolute blowout the team suffered when it faced one of the elite teams in the league. The victory over the Lions? Looking more and more like an anomoly with each passing week. The fact is that what so many of us were hoping for was a performance by this team that would convince us that, though we may not be nearly as good as the best team in the NFL, we're not as pathetic as we looked against them when we played them. What did we get? A victory no doubt, but the same type of victory that leaves one thinking that this is a team setting itself up to being horribly exposed again. And that is exactly what fans ought to reasonably dread--having their team BLOWN OUT! If we think that the team can reasonably expect to gain 240 yards on the ground against the Cowboys, or the Bucs, or even the Giants, well then fine. But my guess is that these teams might do just a wee better job on the D-line, which means that the Skins might actually have to throw the ball a couple of times. How much more faith in the passing game did we develop after yesterday's loss?
Again, I'm happier being 5-3 than 4-4, or worse. But I didn't turn off the tv yesterday being that much more confident than I was after last week's game that this team won't get its ass KICKED when they play Dallas in Dallas in two weeks. Hope I'm dead f-ing wrong. |
Re: Be Happy
While somethings you say make a good point. Like a win is a win, there are no style points etc...
You have to like the fact that we came back from 14 down. Alot of teams could have been like here we go again after getting blown out the week before. We were able to run right through the middle all game. Why pass if you don't have too? We took what they gave us and when it worked we kept doing it and they didn't stop it. The NFL is about execution and the whole team believing in what you are doing. So if you can't get excitied about a team who has won as many games as the experts said we would all year by week 8, you should not be a fan. You have to like the fact that our line is actually starting to look like a NFL line. Our RB is back to being someone we can count on. The fact that we have a QB who can throw deep and across the middle. He is not the best QB in the world but he is a good QB who is going to get better and better. As for our losses they came to teams who are 9-0, 7-1, and 6-2. Two of the games we should have won. I don't know how a 5-3 team beating a 6-2 is anomoly (sp) at all. While the Jets have lost a bunch of games, they are in every game to the end, they can't finish and we have been able too for the most part. This is not about the fact that we ran alot, we were delivering the shots, we were controlling the game, we had their receivers dropping passes, looking over thier sholders, we bullied there defense. We dictated almost everything, we started off slow and asserted our will to win. If you think phyisical football doesn't work you don't know football. We can be more physical then the teams on our schedule. We can run at teams and try to connect on PA. It is all about the mindset that we are going to hit you and make you fold. I saw that on Sunday it doesn't matter who you play this is the NFL. |

Re: Be Happy
Looks like a few more people are drinking the Warpath Kool-aid...and it must taste good because people keep going back to it.
I'm not quite ready to guzzle it like I'm the thirstiest dude on the ranch, but at 5-3, why not be happy? The team may not look like the Patriots, but they don't look like the Dolphins or Rams either. This year is a vast improvement over last year, and the record speaks for itself. From here on out, the Skins just add to the momentum. This weekend, I don't think the stadium PA will have to pump in noise...that the crowd will be like the Dallas home game 2 years ago...so noisy that the Dirty Birds will be put in their place... |
Re: Be Happy
I'm REALLY hoping that this game will prove to be the turning point for the o-line...even if it was against the lowly jets, it still gives them something to build upon (confidence).

Re: Be Happy
If we beat Philly, we will play with less pressure on us to win @Dallas. Evidently, that's what we'll need to beat the Cowboys.

Re: Be Happy
I am extremely pleased with the win we got on Sunday. to make a comeback the way we did, speaks volumes of the character of this team. Now, having said that :
Joe Gibbs has to let our offense play. I see this week in and weak out. We took one maybe two shots down field. We struggle offensively weak in and weak out. I am thinking its more to do with Gibbs being so afraid to let Al open it up than the injury bug. Point during the game : 5:40 left in the game, 3rd and 3(almost 4). We make this it keeps the ball in our hand and we can run more clock out. So what does he do, run the ball out of a 1 WR formation (the whole world knew he was running) and we get stuffed. So, ball goes back to the Jets. 2nd thing, GW brought more pressure this game than all year, and it worked. When Clemmons was pressured it forced the ball out of his hands quicker and basically caused incompletes, or minimal gains. So why did GW sit back and allow them to drive down the field? 3rd and 13 or 12 what ever it was, he sends 3 or 4 guys, Clemmons has all day, finds the open WR for a 15 yard gain. this stuff kills me. Why wouldn't you bring some pressure there? This staff seems to be out coaching itself. Luckily we came out of the game with a WIN. I think we won dispite our coaching staff. Coach Joe has to let Campbell play the QB position. He has to allow the kid to move around, make plays. This play not to lose crap is why we are 5-3 and not 7-1. |
Re: Be Happy
I perfectly happy with the win, ugly or not...this ain't college...there are no polls...you get the same credit whether you win by 3 or 103.

Not bringing preasure on their last drive was tp prvent a TD. If (and we did) we give up a field goal the game is tied they hit the big play and they are up by 4. We had only scored one TD in 55min so why give up a big play and force us to score with little to no time on the clock. |
Re: BE REAL
Well, I don't think it is about being negative or positive - it is about being realistic. Let's face it, we (the fans) are not in the Redskins looker room pre-game, so our attitudes as fans is of NO consequence. I have never been to a game when Skins fans were not 120% positive - even after they were out of the playoffs last year!
The fact is not a pleasant one: our coaching is a problem. We all love and respect Gibbs but there is not getting around this one. What I saw was an offense that could not put the ball in the end-zone against a very very weak team and settled for 4 field goals. We will all have fun on game day regardless - but I am not drinking the cool aide. |
