Re: Tied for 5th best record in NFC
Last week was such a golden opportunity to solidify ourselves in the playoff race. Oh well, time to move on I guess.
For what it's worth, the sabermetrics say that the Eagles played their best game of the season since the Detroit game. That's their best game in the last 7 weeks.
I'm sure our injuries contributed to that, but I think it's best if we just tip our cap to them on this one, and we'll see em next year. |
Re: Tied for 5th best record in NFC
look, I am all about the Skins making the playoffs, but lets get real people. We are 1-2 in our division, play Dallas twice and NY "football" Giants. Plus we are on the road in Tampa, Minnesota. I am sorry, but I dont think there is anyway in hell we beat the Cowboys. They are too damn good. there is something to say for being die hard fans, but at some point that becomes crazy when you talk about "when we beat the cowboys and giants and this and that" What gives anyone any reason to think we can beat any of those teams? We have not shown anything that gives an impression of being a quality team that can win big games. We fold at the end. Good teams dont fold.
I am sick of hearing the cowboys will start losing, and Green bay will start losing neither can keep up their win streaks.... THEY ARE GOOD TEAMS!! There is a difference there, they find ways to win, make plays when they have to. We find ways to lose and let other teams make the plays. Until we make a change philisophically, this is who we are. Dont you think if anything was going to change it would have all ready. Its been 4 years of the same crap.
To say we don't have a chance. Well, its just Un-American. |
Re: Tied for 5th best record in NFC
Judging by alot of the negativity around here lately, I think people are forgetting we are still in this.
Division leaders: Cowboys 8-1 (we WILL beat them) Packers 8-1 (we SHOULD have beat them) Bucs 5-4 (we WILL beat them) Seahawks 5-4 In the hunt: Giants 6-3 (we SHOULD have beat them and will beat them next time) Lions 6-3 (we creamed them) Redskins 5-4 (5 others at 4-5) We beat the Cowboys next week, not only are we in this, we are front runners for wild card. If any team knows that records are thrown out the window when these teams play, it's us. We've beat them when they went to the super bowl, and vice versa. We've beat them when they have had better teams, and vice versa. Throw out everything you know, this will be a Skins victory this week and we WILL make the playoffs.
So what makes you think we can go up to NY and beat The Giants when we can't beat The Eagles at home? |
Re: Tied for 5th best record in NFC
It does depend on who happens to wind up at 9 or 10 wins with us at the end of the year, but we already hold head to head tiebreakers against two serious WC threats, and still play two more.
We don't have to be great down the stretch to make the playoffs. Merely good will get it done. With all the injuries, merely good is pretty much the extent of this teams talent though. I'm willing to step out and guarantee that this team will make the playoffs, but to be honest, I've already sort of have one eye on the offseason. I hate to say it, but the 6th seed and an early playoff exit is not a very successful season. I was too optimistic on Campbell this year, and I'll be the first to admit it. He's still very young, and very mistake prone. The defense was a pleasant surprise early, but what we've seen the past 3 weeks is more in line with what I thought we would be on that side of the ball. Too small in the front seven to stop the run, not quite an elite pass defense. Special teams has been pretty good, but the offensive line (especially the uninjured side) hasn't gotten it done this year. Lots of young talent on this team to love, but we need to make a few critical moves to get better. If we beat Dallas, my whole attitude changes just like that, but until then, I'll have to be forgiven for looking ahead.
Please explain why you think JC is very mistake prone? When I think of very mistake prone QB's I think of Rex Grossman. I think of Alex Smith and Joey Harrington. I think of Phillip Rivers to an extent. I have yet to see JC throw 3,4 and 5 ints in a game. I have yet to see him throw into double coverage alot. Also we have 3 300+ lb guys on the d-line. I don't think size is an issue. We might need a talent upgrade at DE and maybe one of the tackles. Colts don't have size on their front 7. They just have good players. |

Going into this week, he was getting picked on 3% of his pass attempts, and the league average tends to be around 1.5%. He also has put the ball on the ground three times. (2006 Grossman was picked on 4% of his pass attempts, 2007 Vince Young on 5.3%) He will improve as he gets older, but I was overly optimistic on him in the short term. Sunday's game is what I think he will become in the long run. He's got a ways to go to make that a consistent performance. |

No matter what you think of this Philadelphia team, it's hard to say we didn't get their best effort. The Giants aren't really that much better than the Eagles, they just had all their soft games frontloaded. |

The Eagles could have easily been thinking a similar thing last week, how can we go to DC and win when they beat us at home? Hey, shit happens. Each week is practically a new season in the NFL. |

Yep, that's why the saying should be you're only as good as your NEXT game. The injuries are starting to really hurt. Chances are Dallas will beat us this weekend and we'll be 5-5. And I don't like our chances down the stretch with so many key guys hurt. But then I remember that we were 5-6 in 2005 and we made the playoffs. So who the hell knows. That's probably why everyone on the board is so divided between total optimists and total pessimists this season. Fact is we're a middle of the road team that still could go either way. We still have some strengths we can lean on, and we've got our share of weaknesses that can be preyed upon. I've got no idea what will happen, but I've got plenty of hope! |

Pessimism?? I call it the truth. Too many burgandy & Gold shades around here. I love the Redskins, but seriously 4 years of the same shit. year in and year out. There is optomism, and I would be optomistic if there was something to be optomistic about regarding this season, there isn't. There hasn't been for the 4 years Coach Joe has been here. Same shit every year, pay ass loads of money to players and coaches and no one can get out of there own way. There is one thing I am optomistic about. Jason Campbell. I think he is going to be a good QB in this league. The fact is we have or had a window of opportunity with this roster to win. We brought in players to win now, not to rebuild and we just have not won. They will have to blow up this roster in the next year, meaning new players on both sides of the ball. Now, having Jason here may make up for those growing pains of new players, but again if Joe retires again then its new coaches and new schemes AGAIN. it is very frustrating to lose, its even more frustrating to lose every year becuase of the same shit that has plagued this team for years. |

Hey, call it whatever you want, and I'll call it whatever I want. I think you're getting a little crazy here talking about blowing up the team after this year. Sorry but that's not going to happen. Yes there will be some turnover and that's normal. But I don't see why the roster would be drastically overhauled. |

Huh? Speak for yourself. Of course it doesn't mean you're not a true fan. But part of being a good boss, Dad, whatever, is striking some balance and finding some middle ground now and then. The constant negativity from the so called realists is what gets tired. |
