I want the Skins to go. But we play so damn inconsistently I'm close to saying, "Why bother?" Granted I'd love to see them take a wild card slot, eat their spinach and beat the shit out of the NFC. I hope I live to see that. (I wasn't alive/old enough to see Gibbs 1.0) :( |

Exactly, after today im not even thinking playoffs. |
Exactly, after today im not even thinking playoffs.
You don't have to think playoffs. They are 5 weeks of better football away.
But you can't deny that out of all the teams, we probably have the single best chance to get the 6th seed. Granted, that best chance makes it far from a likelihood. The Lions, Cards, Saints, Vikings, and even Bears are all going to fight it out with us. But look at those teams. Two of em we already hold the tiebreaker over, two we still have a chance to beat. The only team who has the tiebreaker on us is New Orleans, and they are probably the worst team of the bunch. |
Re: Great News For Redskins.......
The Vikings looked good today, put up 41 pts without peterson, Brees had a rediculous day. Who knows, this wildcard race should be interesting.

And while I believe we are the frontrunners, it's not going to shock anyone if Minnesota or Arizona gets hot and steals it. If no one gets hot, we just need to go 3-2 to back on in to the playoffs. Then we can get smacked by a far better team. |

Seattle can't run the ball, and we can't really stop the run. However, with ST back, we should be able to somewhat contain Seattle's passing game. I'll try not to get ahead of myself. |

Tampa is a much better team than Seattle, or at the very least last been thus far. |

I understand the frustration, but if the Skins can't even think playoffs then who in the NFC can? Minnesota (and Eli Manning) but up 41 but their defense scored three of those TDs, don't look for that happening again soon. NO is up and down and they can't run the ball and play bad defense. For Detroit just see NO and add that they play Dallas and Green Bay. Chicago can't score if you don't kick to Hester, the guy had two TDs today, hopefully the Redskins special teams gets the hint. Philadelphia really looked impressive against the Pats so we'll see, Feely looked a lot better (particularly with his accuracy) than McNabb has this season. Arizona managed to lose the 49ers and if anyone watched the game it was worse than any of the Skins collapses this season, absolutely incredible. And add to that, as long as Eli Manning is the QB the Giants are not going to win a playoff game, and they are prone to collapse. Did anyone see his press conference after the game? He basically said, "sometimes people throw four interceptions, these things happen." The guy doesn't see to give a f*#$! That first pick was patented Eli, he threw the ball while falling down because he is absolutely terrified of contact. The guy was born to be a punter, and as someone pointed out to me last week, in the greatest season of Eli Manning's life, he has worse numbers than Joey Harringon... The Skins have to beat Buffalo, but none of those other teams are clear cut winners. The real bottom line is that the #6 seed in the NFC just isn't going to be a very good team. |
Re: Great News For Redskins.......
Unfortunatlely the Redskins have put themselves in a position where they will need help from other teams already to get to the poset season.
Fact of the matter is the Redskins have the second longest losing streak in the NFC (Carolina has dropped 5) and the 3rd longest losing streak in the whole league (thank god for the Dolphins, right). Campell has passed for 300+ in consecutive games, but the team is still on the short end at the final bell. The performance by the Eagles last night against New England placed the Redskins squarely at the bottom of the division. They are the only team in the NFC East that has surrendered more points than they have scored. In order to get a wildcard, first and foremost....win out or one loss MIGHT do it. The Saints, Vikings and yes even the Bears are making strives and are entering December on a hot streak. Lions have a tough schedule but could still finish at 9-7. And don't look now, but here come the Eagles again. You would have to hope for the Saints, Vikes, Bears and Eagles to stumble and fall in December while still taking care of business at home. |

So we do control our destiny there. The Eagles still have to go to Irving and Seattle. The Eagles do have the talent to finish up at 8-8 and force us to win 9 games, but thats about the extent to which they are a threat. The final team, the Saints, are a bad football team. They can beat helpless teams such as Carolina and a QBless, DTless, Jacksonville squad, but they wouldn't beat us, they can't beat Tampa, and they still have to play Philly and Chicago. They aren't going 4-1 and frankly, are unlikely to sniff .500 this year. So while technically we still need two losses from the Lions, 4-1 makes us a virtual certainty from the playoffs. If we take care of our business at home these next two weeks, it will set up a game with the Giants in which we can tie up the season series if Philadelphia can beat them at home. So three weeks from now, we can be sitting in 2nd place in the NFC East, and the only drastic thing that has to happen is that we have to beat the Giants on the road, a team who arguably, we are better than. |
Re: Great News For Redskins.......
This is absolute loser talk. We should stop worrying about other teams helping the Skins back into a post-season position, and talk about why our team can't take care of its own business and finish a damn game.

I think we are talking about that in several other threads. But the reality is when you get to this time of year you have to look at what other teams are doing and how that impacts the playoff scenarios. |

Although i agree with this comment...one can't help but think about the playoffs since we have been very competitive with the NFC elite. Green Bay won after late fumble recovery...Dallas was taken to the last drive...Tamp the same...and Seattle is a up and down team.. we need to take care of the bills and bears and then we can talk what if and playoff scenario! |
