Re: Postponing the Chicago game?
I hate what has happened, and feel for everyone on the team, but I hope they do not reschedule this game. I am flying from Calgary (Canada) with my Dad to watch the game. I am looking forward to seeing this game as we have both been waiting for this game to come.

Re: Postponing the Chicago game?
There are a lot of other logistics to consider as well. Getting the production trucks from one venue to the next. Finding hotel rooms for all production crew plus the players. Staffing the stadium, and so on.
Maybe they could just bar the Bears from practicing while the Redskins are at the funeral.
That's a GREAT idea! Although, I don't know if the league could actually "BAR" them from practicing. After all....the BEARS didn't do anything that would require a disciplinary act such as barring them from anything. However, there are two scenarios here. If the BEARS win Sundays game, against the GIANTS, they will typically have Monday "OFF" anyway. And, I would imagine that there may even be many of them there at the funeral, as would a lot of other players from around the league. If for any other reason then just to show support....and respect. Which brings me to my second point.....they will probably be there to show support and respect. Therefore, there would be no reason for the league to enforce such a "bar". And, mostly..... I wouldn't think that the BEARS, or any other team really, would use a time like this to claim an "Upper Hand" against an opponent. There are times when we all play a team that has come off a short week. But this is way different. That would be pretty sh*tty, in my opinion....and a very unfair advantage. I don't think the fans in Chicago would look at that very favorably. (Although.......I wouldn't put it past Belicheat. LOL) I am going to start planting that seed on my board, however. I think it's a great idea. And the least we can do. . |
Today's Wash Post says that the Skins will play as scheduled. Rescheduling games is just too difficult for all involved.
I don't buy that. The NFL moved the Giants - Saints game on short notice in the wake of Katrina. Roger Goodell's talk is cheap on doing right by the Skins after Taylor's death. The Skins have 2 games and a teammate's funeral in a 5 day stretch. Why not move the Thursday Bears game to Sunday, and replace the Thursday game with one that doesn't have playoff ramifications? Better still, move the NFL Network broadcast to Saturday night, which would probably draw more viewers than a Thursday game anyway. The NFL can make it happen IF they want to.

Moving and rescheduling are entirely different things. Besides that the Saints literally had no stadium to play in. I know its hard on the Skins but I dont see why other teams and their fans (all with ticket and travel plans made) shoul be inconvenienced. Its easy to say they should do it and nobody will mind but tell that to the guy who took off work on Sun and is flying to a game he thinks is on Sun only to have it moved to Thurs. I doubt he'd be happy and would likely be po'd (see Canada skins post). The Skins have not talked about moving this game because they understand what is involved and quite frankly have a bit more class than to think everyone else should accomodate them. The bottom line is this game wont be rescheduled. |
Re: Postponing the Chicago game?
I'm not sure that moving the game would do much good anyway. The rest of the season is going to be tough no matter what. If anything, keeping busy is probably the best thing for the team right now to help keep their minds off of it. I think the offseason will be the biggest hurdle as that's when the players have some time off and the U guys typically hang out together in Florida.

I completely agree. Besides the external reasons for not rescheduling, anyone that has lost someone close understands that the best thing to do is get back to living life asap. |

Thanks bro! It's an honor to be here. . |
Re: Postponing the Chicago game?
The Skins cannot possibly be ready to play this Sunday and again next Thursday. No one can fault them if they lose both games. If I were one of the players, I don't see how I could not be distracted and emotional to the point where it would affect my ability to play my best.

Re: Postponing the Chicago game?
Tragedy can bring out the best in people. Look at what Brett Favre did on the eve of losing his father. He had argueably his best game ever. I think if the players turn this into a "win it for Sean" game they will all play the way he played the game. They know how much Sean loved this team and football and he would want them to go out and kick some butt. It is horrbile what happened, but as it was posted above, sometimes the distraction of moving on with your life and get back to normal things is a good way to cope. I think the guys will play their hearts out and dedicate the rest of the season to Sean. I read somewhere that teams should be really concerned about playing the skins cause now they have something to rally around. Get into the playoffs for Sean as that is what he would have wanted.
