dorsey's going to go too high for our pick. hopefully, we can grab a guy just as good at our pick... that's right- sedrick ellis! nah, he'll be gone top 10 too. |

canthetuna, that's funny considering your name; you want to make a deal w/the tuna for the #1 pick is essentially what you're saying. As it stands now, Dorsey looks like the #1 pick in the draft. Tuna would love to trade down, problem is he'll want a few picks in return. |
Re: Risk or Reward Albert Haynesworth???
Great observation. We signed Dana Stubblefield 10 years back after he was the NFL Defensive MVP with 15 sacks as a DT. He did squadoosh as a Redskin.
Bonus points for "squadoosh". Haynesworth has played very well throughout his career. The spike in his numbers we're seeing have a lot to do with the fact that he was (rightly) suspended for so much of last year. As for his character, I'd say he showed a great deal of contrition for his actions last year, and has behaved since. I doubt he'll make it to the market, and I doubt we'd be able to afford his asking price if he did. |
Also if we could sign him for the Vet minimum I would take the chance.;)
no way that would happen. Too good of a player, with minimal issues. he will get a nice contract. |
Re: Risk or Reward Albert Haynesworth???
Haynesworth is a hell of a DT. He's worth the gamble. I'm not saying the Skins should go after him, I'm just saying he's worth the gamble for someone.

Re: Risk or Reward Albert Haynesworth???
The Titan's record while he was out this year says volumes about his importance to that team. If they let him hit the market, they're insane. That said, no way we sign him.

Re: Risk or Reward Albert Haynesworth???
I'd leave this one up to JG's but he's been really good for 2 years now right? I would have to guess w/ AM & KG we might be set at the d tackle position. I'd still rather spend $ in another area.
|
Re: Risk or Reward Albert Haynesworth???
I don't think there's much of a chance of him hitting the open market. But just to daydream for a moment... having a terror at DT like Haynesworth would really great.
There's just not many DT's in the game today that can dominant the line of scrimmage like he does. I think he would be a great pickup, but again I don't see him hitting the open market. If for some insane reason he does though, the Skins would be crazy to not consider him. |
Re: Risk or Reward Albert Haynesworth???
id like the skins to find their own version of haynesworth be it thru the draft or elsewhere . ..
go skins! |

There's a pretty good article in today's Washington Post about Montgomery and Golston (too lazy to link) |

A big difference from last year when both were forced to start against Tennessee and were both consistently pushed 5-10 yards off the LOS. That was one of the worst performances I've ever seen, they've come a long way. Next year is also the first time when the Skins can save money by releasing Griffin (1.65M - more, I assume, if they do so after June 1). I'd hate to see him go, but we'll see. |
Re: Risk or Reward Albert Haynesworth???
I think Griff will be back at a lower figure.

Re: Risk or Reward Albert Haynesworth???
Here are team needs the way I see it:

Defensive line
Wide receiver/s
Offensive line
Defensive backs
Running back
The Redskins need to pay draft attention to the lines [O and D]. We've been working on the cheap with finds like Stephon Heyer and Anthony Montgomery. We can put off selecting an O-lineman for another year with Pete Kendall in the roster, but we need a pass rush from a down lineman even with improved coverage by the secondary.
So, yes, if a talent like Albert Haynesworh is available, we should take a look. Cap room is a factor and the Redskins may be in even worse shape than usual next season. Shawn Springs will be gone. CP may be gone. There will be a cap hit to release Brandon Lloyd. Some high profile vets [Samuels?] may choose not to restructure their contracts and could be traded or released. So, the Skins could be forced to mine the undrafted free-agent market -- again. But what they need is elite talent, like Haynesworth, and the cap room to sign them. |
