I think loosing Jansen for the year is going to hurt us big time.I know one man doesnt make a team but he is a conerstone of the franchise. We won so I cant complain but there is a LOT of rust to be knocked off.I expect that next week our offense will be better with Ramsey starting seeing as how he should be more comfortable with the first team. The play was sloppy and just like last year we cant seem to cover tight ends.I hope they take care of that or else other teams are going to take advantage of it again. The pass rush was better than I expected but the run D was much worse than expected.Sean Taylor is the obvious bright spot of the game but what about Springs pick off, that helped put me at ease about the trade but it is still early so we will have to wait and see.All and all I have mixed feelings about the game, some good and some bad.

SmootSmack 08-10-2004 12:56 AM

I thought what should be our starting secondary (Smoot, Springs, Taylor, Bowen) played really well. Led by Taylor of course.

Hasselbeck looked very poised and a guy we can trust to step in if necessary. True, he was playing against third stringers but who were his receivers? Gari Scott and Jafar Williams right? Not exactly starters themselves

Ramsey still has a lot of work to do, in terms of being able to quickly check off receivers and let go of the ball.

Obviously it's not good that Jansen is out for the year. But if something like this had to happen, I'm glad it happened now. We've got four more meaningless games to get someone in there who can gel with the rest of the offensive line.

I know the Redskins were 0-4 in the preseason the year that Gibbs won his first Super Bowl, but what were their preseason records in other Super Bowl years. Anybody remember?

A lot of work to do!

It is funny that the Thrid QB on the depth chart is looking better with every passing day. I know this will not hold but I really thought Ramsey and Brunell would look better. As for the rest of the team not very good. Taylor was the best and the rest not so good.

PSUskinsfan11 08-10-2004 01:43 AM

more impressed with d-line pressure than o-line blocking.......

Hasselback, McCullough, Scott, Boshetti, Nic Clemons, Lott all played well

thank god we drafted ST instead of the soldier.....

Champ who??? Springs not only held his own while he was in but he had a sick INT.....

Rushing D is still suspect.........

That Guy 08-10-2004 02:52 AM

scott and simon looked good, mccullough had some plays too...
0 sacks against, we got 3 sacks... 0 ints against, we got 3 ints.. need i say more?

well, okay, Talyor is everything that you could possibly expect him this game, springs is a good corner (and currently healthy), and we did get some pressure... tim did himself another favor, and mccants also looked good.

the blitzing made or run defense look pretty bad though... hopefully thats not how williams is planning to run the real games...

I like the fact that we WON the game!

ChounsMan 08-10-2004 07:38 AM

All in all it was a classic preseason game. Although, the skins struggled against the broncos starting D. Sean Taylor might just live up to the hype they talk about with last nights preseason performance. However, guys like Payton, Brady, & Farve are not that easy to read.

W/o Jansen the O-line with struggle all season :(

SkinsRock 08-10-2004 02:32 PM

My thoughts (I have not read through the game thread, so I apologize if I repeat anything)...
- Jansen's injury absolutely sucks! But consider the fact that the original "Hogs" were mostly late round or undrafted no-names until Bugel got a hold of them. I am hoping that Buges can work his magic with someone, at least for this year....no, not hoping....I am counting on it!!!
- Hasselbeck played well. He played like a guy with nothing to lose, which he pretty much is. The two "starters" could learn something from him! There's a reason Gibbs has praised him a lot recently. I think it is a) because he IS playing well, and b) to push Ramsey and Brunell.
- Taylor is a gamer. He also had a pick on Sat. during the scrimmage. Seems that he is adjusting to the NFL. Did anyone notice that his INT for the TD was on a boot-leg play....just like the ones that burned our D numerous times last year!!! :)
- Both offenses looked sloppy as hell. It was the first pre-season game. Clinton seemed to look like he was just starting to get comfortable when he was done for the game.
- Brunell and Ramsey looked about even....as Gibbs would say, "very rough." Yeah Ramsey got hit more, but consider the fact that the O-line was not the starters for him, except maybe his first couple plays.
- Did anybody notice that until later in the game, about 3/4 of the penalties were against Denver? I was very happy about that.

All in all, being an extra 5th pre-season game, away for both teams, it was really not much more than a glorified scrimmage. Gibbs got to see what mistakes need to be fixed. Should be very interesting to see how they progress throughout the pre-season.

I paid particular attention to Brandon Noble, (well I hope it was him I did not catch the name was not in much but the number was 99 or 96 and he had one hand wrapped pretty well so I assumed that was the broken one). If that was not him whoever it was had a decent game albeit against the second and third string but he did bring down Mike Anderson twice the back field. He did not play much but when he was in, Denvers running game was nothing. I really would like to see how many yards and how many times they ran with him in there. He was in the back field making a tackle atleast twice while i was watching.

Noble didn't even make the trip, he's #75. Griffin is #96 and may be who you are referring to.

bridaman51 08-11-2004 10:29 AM

That is possiblity, but I thought it was a second string guy. Does Griffin play some with the second unit?

Maybe it was Salvea'a....he's number 99. I think he started.

MTK 08-11-2004 10:38 AM

Salvea'a did start with Griffin
