He was commenting on how it was last year and prior. He obviously has no clue what Gibbs brings. Oh well. Like Matty said, who cares?
To paraphrase his quote about Snyder: As far as I'm concerned, Bailey doesn't even exist anymore. I don't have to see him every week anymore, so I don't really care what he says or does.

NY Skinsfan:

Just a guess here but I think that the list of folks that he is talking about include:

Danny Boy
Vinnie Boombatz
Pepper Rodgers

These are the guys who ran the football show here during most if not all of Champ's tenure.

He may or may not have included in his statement Norv Turner, Terry Robiske (how soon we all have forgotten the achievements of that era), Marty Schottenheimer and Steve Spurrier.

And by the way, if someone offers a criticism of Joe Gibbs, that does not make that person an evil one to be shunned. Even Mr. Gibbs would be most uncomfortable in the role of a diety - the only way that it is fundamentally wrong ever to criticize him.

Now go back and look at the top three list of names. Which one of them belongs in the Canton HoF as a great football mind? If they had a wing of the HoF for most money shelled out, Danny Boy is a shoo-in for induction; but a great football mind? Just remember these words Jeff ... George.

He is now Chump to me. I can see him wanting too leave the past 2 or 3 years, but now when there is a sign of hope to turn his bad on the team, only means one thing. He was not a true Redskin.

Skins fan 44:

If that is YOUR definition of a "true Redskin", then Joe Gibbs certainly isn't one.

By his own words he thought about leaving the Skins for a year of so before he did. He left when the squad was still solid and there was hope for the next season. He turned his back on the team.

Excuse me, but what Gibbs did was to take his life into another place and to pay more attention to his racing team and spend a lot more timie with both of his sons. It wasnt' evil

What Champ did was take a better deal in Denver than he could get here. And when asked about playing in Denver and Washington he gave his opinion - which you obviously don't agree with or appreciate. That doesn't make him evil either.

My definition of a "true Redskin" is someone who will give 100% effort and to subjugate his personal goals and desires to the team's goals. Not for forever and a day but for the duration of his contract here.

I agree with Memphis. Champ Bailey is 100% correct about the way the Redskins were. Dan Snyder has not been a help to the Washington Redskins. I love Joe Gibbs and couldn't be happier that he's back in town, but I'm trying to curb my excitement just a little until we see the regular season. Dan Snyder can really do a lot to screw up a good team, I have a lot of questions about the upcoming season.

What if Ramsey starts, how will Dan react? Remember when Brad Johnson held off Jeff George in camp, but Snyder made it clear George was his guy so any mistake Johnson made he had to look over his shoulder?

How long does he stay with Gibbs, if by some unforeseen reason they do have a losing season or 2? Remember that Spurrier was "the guy he always wanted too."

I agree with Champ about the way the Skins used to be and I believe that I would have the same reservations about returning to the team that he did. Snyder saying "Gibbs is my guy" doesn't really mean anything because that's what he said about Spurrier. I would think he would have more respect than to fire Gibbs at the first sign of trouble, but I'm not sure. I know a lot of you will say that he didn't fire Spurrier, but after last season he should have and they shouldn't have fired Marty.

All of that said, I think things are going to change...but how can I be sure? Please turn us around Joe...if anyone can do it, it's you!!

jdlea...Snyder will never fire Gibbs. Snyder looks up to Gibbs just like we do. There is no comparison between Gibbs and Spurrier whatsoever...even if Spurrier was "the guy he always wanted."

SmootSmack 08-10-2004 11:16 PM

Spurrier was basically the guy he always wanted....if Gibbs wasn't available. Rules change when Gibbs says he's willing to come back

I thought at the time that Champ Bailey would take off where Darrell Green left off. However, when a talented player such as Bailey sees the kind of disorganization that Synder and Spurrier brought to the last seasons, it's not hard to understand his position. Bailey's performance wasn't as impressive as his first year in 1999. His reputation as a shut-down corner had gone to his head which is why he demanded more money after he was offered probably the most money a corner could earn in a year. I'm very happy with Springs, Smoot, Taylor and Bowen.

Ralph Brown and Rudolph Brown deserve an honorable mention.

Champ has every right to feel the way he does. We all used to love him and think hed be a skin for life. But Snyder basically chose arrington over bailey. Imagine how much shit arrington would be saying if he didnt get his big extension. Both had to deal with a different cordinator every year, both played for a shitty team...

I never have anythign bad to say about the skins, im a huge fan, but there are some things you cant argue. If you played on the skins defense in teh last five years you went through hell.
