Re: Matt Bowen says Williams is the best choice
Hey guys, I live in Tennessee Titan's country and on the local sports talk radio this morning they were talking about Jim Schwartz interviewing for the Skins HC job. That is being discussed in another thread, but when they finished that conversation, they said that Greg Williams, if he did not get the HC job in D.C would be high on several team's list to be a Defense Coordinator. These guys on the radio, of whom one was former Skins and Titans player Frank Wycheck, spoke of nothing but praise for Greg Williams.
I think Danny is kind of missing the boat if he does not hired Greg, who is overwhelmingly the "best coach available" for the Skins at this point. Danny may be thinking something long term with another coach and we all know he likes to make a big splash with players and coaches, but I think he needs to look at how other successful teams are doing it these days with continuity and a defensive minded coach. Recent offensive minded coaches have not worked out very well, while defensive coaches instill that toughness and work ethic that all teams need. "Danny.... think defense and hire Greg.... Please!
If GW doesn't get the HC job here he would be out of a job for about 5 seconds. He's HIGHLY respected as a D coordinator. |

Firstdown, I hear ya man, but I am just calling it like it is, Snyder loves to go all Hollywood and get the biggest name he can find. Why do you think he runs with Tom Cruise! Maybe he will interview a movie coach like Gene Hackman from the Replacements, or Pacino from Any Given Sunday. Nothing would surprise me. |
Re: Matt Bowen says Williams is the best choice
What if Williams doesn't want the job? As Bram mentioned in his blog, Williams has said before that he enjoys being a coach in DC without having the responsibilities of a head coach. SO then who do you look at? It's rumored thatGrimm interviewed today.

Re: Matt Bowen says Williams is the best choice
Yeah, the thought that Williams is perfectly happy being where he is is something I had broached a couple of days ago. But the more I think about it, the more I hear, and the more other members here convince me, you'd think he'd at least want one more shot to prove his worth as a head coach.

Yeah seriously. Get used to it though. Even if he became the most responsible owner in the league we would still hear it from some bozo who can't let go of the past. |
Re: Matt Bowen says Williams is the best choice
If Greg Williams accepts the HC job and Bugel follows Gibbs into resignment then we will need an Associate Head Coach - Defense (Schwartz) and also a Associate Head Coach - Offense (Grimm).

Re: Matt Bowen says Williams is the best choice
Grimm would need a better title than what he currently has with the Cardinals (Associate Head Coach-Offense) if the Cardinals are going to let him out of his contract.
Yeah but we all know what CP thinks about practice. Do you think he would appreciate bootcamp Williams in August?
I just doubt GW would try and change the atmosphere all that much. In the end he comes off as a results guy and not a needless drill sargeant way like Coughlin does. |
Re: Matt Bowen says Williams is the best choice
I love greggs toughness-leadership-and passion!!Give him a shot!Hail!!

Re: Matt Bowen says Williams is the best choice
It's safe to say that Bowen is a bit biased since he mainly dealt with GW instead of Gibbs, but he makes some good points regardless. And even though Bowen liked his tough guy approach, that doesn't always jive with every player.
The Tuna was a hardass too, and quite successful. Personally I don't see how it should be an issue. Also Belicheck doesn't seem like the most cuddly coach, but the players love him because he is a winner. |
