There are a lot of things that could have been done on that thread to avoid/curtail the mass hysteria.

Be absolutely clear about where you got the information. I heard it on the radio is fine if you add where exactly you heard it. Take Redskins_P's Ray Brown thread for example. He was specific in saying he heard it on SporsTalk 980. Identify the station you heard it on.

If you didn't hear it yourself, but a friend did then say so. "Hey guys, my buddy just told me he was listening to WPTH 1300 AM up in Hagerstown and they're reporting the Redskins just hired Jim Mora. Has anyone else heard anything on this? Thanks"

Thanks to various other resources we can identify pretty quickly what's a legit rumor to follow and what's not

(I realize this is all kind of ironic coming from me, who often has to post "off the record" sources)

Exactly. I wasn't trying to be an ass about it, but you pretty much summed it up. Honestly, I could care less about all the other rumors out there right now, it's just the one regarding our new coach that I'm concerned with.

I think everyone is on pins and needles until they come out and officially name Gregg Williams.

If you've been a poster on here for 3 years you would have noticed the hypertext that people place in postings that link their cited sources in a big announcement.

Simple protocol. My personal contention is that you were trying to intentionally incite the board with a weak thread, which you pulled off successfully...well done.

I guess this would be a bad time to bring up a rumor I heard that Synder was going to bring back Spurrier who in turn was going to hire Ramsey as his Offensive Coordinator and Lavar as his Defensive coordinator.

Can we lock all threads with the word "coach" in the title? Maybe if everyone confined their discussion to a single thread for the HC position, we wouldn't have to "worry" about this.

Who's worried? I usually don't believe any breaking news posted here unless there is a link to a news story, a mod or admin posts it (we have very credible mods here,) or I hear it for myself. I knew Mora wasn't hired because he was just interviewed today.

I agree with you on the multiple threads of one topic. Then again, if and when Gregg Williams is officially hired, I hope there is a new, official (with link provided) thread for it. When you're trying to keep up with the news at work (without letting your boss chew on your ear because you're surfing the net when you should be working,) you don't want to have to dig through an older thread of 12 pages or more to find the official announcement.

The 13 posters before me, maybe? I was being sarcastic.

I'm sure there will be about 15 new threads when the new coach is announced, so I'm not worried about that.
