Re: UFA's from Seattle
Matt Hasselbeck(not ever gonna happen)
Trent Dilfer(retired) Senaca Wallace-(hassellback's heir apparent) Brock Huard(he still plays???) Charlie Frye(only been there 1 season) looks like we need 2 new qbs.but i'd take trufant and the wr. |
Re: UFA's from Seattle
If we had the choices:
Trufant Hackett Brown |
Re: UFA's from Seattle
trufant won't be available... he'll get a deal or tagged.
DJ would be an upgrade, but only a minor one. we really need a guy like CJ/roy williams/fitzgerald to make a big impact on offensive rankings. and we need to not trade our #1 pick so we can get the DL guy for our defensive rankings. |
Re: UFA's from Seattle
Lets remember guys we've had in the past that were brought in because they played under the head coach on his previous team and knew the new system:
Norv: Alvin Harper, Scott Galbraith, Derrick Brownlow, James Washington, John Gesek Marty: Kevin Lockett, Donnell Bennett, Dave Szott Spurrier: Jacquez Green, Shane Matthews, Danny Wuerfful, Taylor Jacobs
Nice job of going back. |
Re: UFA's from Seattle
i think we need to look at who zorn will try to bring in for a xtra teacher and a quality back up who has experience in this system so we don't have a bunch of qb's trying to learn the system and no one knowing the system. the list looks to be out of ....
Matt Hasselbeck Trent Dilfer Senaca Wallace Brock Huard Charlie Frye
Brock Huard or Dilfer would be a good pick-up. Can anyone see Dilfer as a future coordinator of some kind later on in his life? Geez the dude went to Baltimore, the 49ers, and i think a few other teams to help adjust to new systems. Especially with Collins gone, I think Zorn will try to bring over one of his regulars to further help JC adjust yet again. Probably an older vet who we can get cheap. |
Re: UFA's from Seattle
I like Trufant for sure.. and Hackett and Brown definetly would be pretty good add ons

I am in no way implying that we should rebuild our team based solely on former protoge's. I am talking about a subtle character who knows the system, can impact our effenciency, and work mostly behind the scenes at practice to get us going on the right track ASAP. I dont see us losing alot of players we currently have and i feel that Dano has learned (or starting to learn i.e. Lloyd, Archuleta... eeeeesh) from the Spurrier/Marty eras and has made a fair attempt (Landry, Cartwright, Cooley, Taylor, JC, Rogers...) at building through the draft and will continue to do so . |

I think Dilfer might come, as the QB coach. He proved last year in SanFran that he no longer has the physical tools to be an NFL QB. However, he is a great teacher, won a SB as the starting QB, and is a tremendously smart guy. Also, Zorn is a lefty and JC didn't have great success with a lefty mentor before (MB?). Dilfer would be a great choice. As for the Hawk FA's, wouldn't want a single one. |
Re: UFA's from Seattle
DJ Hackett had a nice season and is very reliable WR. But I think he's pretty old. Trufant would be real nice but I doubt they're going to let him leave Seattle. We just need to draft and quit chasing FA's.
DJ Hackett will be 28 this year. That is not pretty old. |
Re: UFA's from Seattle
yeah, spurrier's guys sucked, but they sucked at vet min, which is much better than being worthless with a $10mill signing bonus.
|
Re: UFA's from Seattle
I don't see the Seahawks letting Trufant get away.
I wouldn't mind taking a run at Hackett. |

Re: UFA's from Seattle
Now that we know who will be our HC next season, lets look at some of his former players who he is probably comfortable with, knows, and may want to try to pick up to help the transition from the Gibbs era. Given the needs of our team (WR, O line, CB, #2TE, DT......), the list looks pretty tempting if I may say so. Only an idiot would think that we would get the whole list but I would not be surprised to see a few follow Zorn to D.C.
Here's a list of the Hawks who will be free agents if not signed by March 1. Unrestricted free agents LB Kevin Bentley PK Josh Brown DT Chuck Darby WR D.J. Hackett TE Bennie Joppru ILB Niko Koutouvides OT Sean Locklear TE Marcus Pollard CB Marcus Trufant OG Floyd Womack DT Ellis Wyms Restricted Free agents RB Alvin Pearman FB Leonard Weaver.
Of that group, I would be most interested in DJ Hackett as a bargain WR signing. He's 6'2" and should have a very good understanding of the offensive principles that Zorn is bringing here. |
Re: UFA's from Seattle
none of these guys will come to the skins because Zorn has no system to impliment. He basically is doing everything here from scratch. Vinny is in charge of players anyway so we'll see some west coast system players.
