Skins 009-
I fully agree with you about our poor draft record in the later rounds. I have been upset about this and the fact we do not have a well regraded GM for years. However my real issue with this subject is Dan Snyder's hypocrisy: Danny fires coaches (Marty) after one season because they did not produce or coach Williams because nobody knows? He cuts players when they do not produce. However he does not hold his Front Office accountable with the same kind of scrutiny? It wasn't until Gibbs took over that we started to see some improvement. The biggest sign of failure by our FO is the fact the we only have three players from 2001, 2002 and 2003 drafts: Fred Smoot, Ledell Betts and Rock Cartwright, not what I would call pro bowl caliber players. Only three guys. Keep in mind we were not a good team during these years: 2001 8-8 2002 7-9 2003 5-11 So please do not reply with we were a talented team so that is why draft picks did not make the team. The truth is we have had some terrible drafts under Snyderatto. Why do they not get graded and dismissed from their player personnel responsibilities? My guess is ego. Danny wants to call all the shots and Cerratto is the only person that will take the job as second fiddle.
I completely agree with you. |
Re: My worst Fear: V Cerrato Running the Redskins
I know there are many people on this site who disagree with this post. So i'll come out and make the following prediction:
1 My beloved skins will finish last in the NFC east in 2008 2 We will be picking in the top 12 of of the 2009 Draft (that is of course if synder doesn't get drunk at a bar with some nfl agents and trade away the pick) |
Close -- Portis and Taylor sent Gibbs a fruit basket apparently, but Greg Williams begged Gibbs to draft Taylor. Gibbs reportedly wanted KWII. Lucky for us, we were in a can't miss situation, but we made the right choice.
Yeah passed up on KWll. and who did we draft in rnd3? Chris Cooley baby... who is better than KW'll So happy that day when we picked taylor over him |

I do not like that a moderator and others are resorting to name calling, calling people or their ideas "ignorant and retarded" is not what this web page should be about. I enjoy reading other people's opinions on the Redskins whether I agree with them or not. I do not like when it resorts to childish name calling and one upsmanship. We do not all have to agree and think Cerratto and Snyer are great.I have been a huge Redskins fan for over 40 years. I do not have to be a Snyder or Cerratto fan. |
Re: My worst Fear: V Cerrato Running the Redskins
I don't like that people think the moderators aren't entitled to their own opinions. Skins009 started this thread so he put his own opinions up there for scrutiny and debate.
And it's just really interesting to note that he doesn't mention that we made the playoffs with Brunell. Yeah, yeah, I know it was all the defense. That's of course, total bs. Portis, Cooley, Brunell, and Moss all set Redskins and individual records on offense that season (not as positive about Portis actually). His comment about Jansen is completely ignorant (unless Skins009 happens to be Julius Peppers). He doesn't mention that we made the playoffs with our 6th round pick and starter Anthony Montgomery anchoring the middle, or with Reed Doughty stepping in for Sean Taylor (RIP) for the last six weeks of the season, or with CFL stand-out Chris Wilson notching two sacks in the playoff clincher, or with undrafted Stephon Heyer holding it down at RT. Damn straight it's ignorant. And it should be called out as such. |
Re: My worst Fear: V Cerrato Running the Redskins
i'd say the front office has really improved over the last 5 or 6 years. it's just that snyder started off so poorly with the big contracts of washed up players (sanders, george, smith, carrier, etc) ever since then he has been watched and scrutinized by everyone. snyder and VC have made some poor choices and some very good choices in free agency and the draft. i'd rank the skins as better than average, in both free agency and the draft, when compared with the other 31 nfl teams.

If you want evidence of how bad Jansen is watch the tape of the pre-season this last year. Specifically the titans game. We've only been making the playoff's because the NFC is so weak. The skins remind me a lot of the chiefs from a couple of years ago who were making the playoffs but clearly were not a solid team. You can see me prediction above. If your so bold, make your own prediction then we'll see who knows more about football and building a championship franchise. |

And I know enough about football to know that there's no point in making predictions before the draft or even free agency has begun. |
Re: My worst Fear: V Cerrato Running the Redskins
I think that after the draft and free agency, that the members should make predictions, and those that are right should be awarded some sort of title, and those that are wrong should be put on team "Shortbus" for at least 3 months.
