There are some seriously hare brained ideas there. Didn't/doesn't our CIA have either better things to do or more intelligence to come up with more reasonable ideas?

No wonder they blew the WMDs. They were probably too busy reading books on indigenous cacti which they could rig to blow up when Osama went to take a pee.

I'm sure a lot of those were intended to be very off the wall "Ok, let's just go around the room and each of you throw out your most extreme idea."

The CIA is an interesting group. For all we know amongst us here on the Warpath is an undercover CIA operative (Hooskins, I'm looking in your direction)

Muahaha, and all along you thought I was a silly college student.

On a related note, I took a history class called "history of espionage" taught by an ex-CIA guy. We talked about all the crazy ways people tried to kill Castro, including poisoning drinks. One story was how the CIA got to get one of Castro's mistresses to try to kill him. Castro found out or something and gave her the gun and told her too assassinate him, but she couldn't because he was "too amazing" and she loved him too much or something. Crazy stuff. Apparently there is museum in Cuba where Fidel has displays for every US failed assignation attempt.

It is just comically embarrassing.

I know it just sounded so kooky.

I took a class that sounds pretty similar. It was called 'radical change' and we discussed all sorts of revolutions through history and obviously Cuba was a big topic. Our prof told us something about someone trying to use an exploding cigar to try to kill Castro.

I think it should be noted that Operation Mongoose was implemented at the insistence of the Kennedy Brothers and was overseen personally by Bobby Kennedy. The extreme pressure they were putting on everyone to get rid of Castro was no doubt a major reason some of the more outlandish ideas were not immediately shot down. Smart people at the agency understood that this was bad news and stayed the hell out of it.

Here is question to the Castro lovers: If Castros' style of government is so good, then why are so many Cubans leaving that great Utopia to come to America, sometimes floating on shelled-out Chevys? This country is so diverse, because those diverse people wanted a better life. How many people emigrate to Cuba for a better lifestyle?

Are there any Castro lovers here, or anywhere for that matter?

One of my good friends from undergrad was and is pretty liberal, but after she visited relatives in Cuba she briefly turned into Bill O'Reilly. She was absolutely appalled by the conditions in Havana, could not believe what a police state is really like, and was basically disgusted with the failed state of Cuba.

It's pretty wild to think how vibrant Cuba was back in the first half of the 20th century. Seems like that was place to be back in the day, smoking SJ9s in the VIP room of La Tropicana while listening to Desi Arnaz rocks the drums
