That's a good move...kudos. Let's get Hackett.

Good to have TC back. I think he would do well within this new offense. Quick decisions and release of the ball to a spot. Time will tell and I hope he doesn't see the field in 2008.
Yeah the FA market looks like it's going to pick up where it left off last year with marginal guys getting mega deals and stars getting insane mega deals. Sounds like there may have been a bit of a bidding war for Collins, I like that we got this done quickly. He was definitely a top priority. Nice to see us paying our own guys for once.
Matty - lets hope that teams go bonkers this year - as many GM's have said that the talent pool is not that great. That way teams will use up their cap space so when the SKins eventually do get some cap room in future years the competition will be lower if you know what I mean.
Is it just me or isn't that a bit much for a backup QB who is as old as dirt?
I was thinking the same thing but how much of that money will TC ever see and how much is based off him actually playing?

I don't think the details are available yet. I assume there's a pretty hefty SB based on last year's play, and a steeply escalating salary that will never be payed.
I like that we're focusing on our own guys first and taking a wait and see approach to the FA market.

I hate to say I called this, but I kinda did say that I thought there was a good chance TC would be back. WHERE'S MY CREDIT?! ;)
Good call Matty! You happy now, ya big Ego? :)

This continues the trend from last year of retaining key players who performed well for us (Betts, Sellers, Collins-I'm sure I'm forgetting others). Five more years of this and maybe irish will start to think we're turning things around.

Anyhow...does anyone else find it kind of interesting that Zorn and Snyder flew out to Massachusetts to bring Collins back, while Cerrato stayed back in DC? What's that all about? Maybe it's like the State of the Union addresses where one Cabinet member is always absent in case of some mass tragedy on site.

Maybe with FA about to start Vinny was too busy to go? Or maybe they thought the message would be best delivered by Zorn.

I've been watching the 6 part interview with him on Redskins.com and I'm more and more impressed with him by the minute. Well spoken, definitely an x's and o's guy, very likeable personality, I like his offensive philosophy... I'm diggin' the Z man!

Maybe Vinny stayed behind and manned the phones for other deals. In a perfect world, that's what happened.

Great news! He deserved to be the top priority after what he did for the team last season.

Re: Todd Collins Re-Ups

Joey Harrington, Rex Grossman, and David Carr all signed deals worth $3 mil a year to be backups in the last calender year, and Todd's probably the best of the bunch.
I think that's a pretty fair deal for a #2 these days.
Really?? I think that was way too much. I don't think older back-ups like Brad Johnson, Trent Diler, Gus, Kerry Collins or Charlie Batch made or make that much. I'm glad he's back but for 3mil a year?? I'm not sure JC is making much more than that.

I am too. The more I hear him talk the more I'm starting to like this guy.

I don't know about you but I'd take Collins over any of those guys you named. Check out gtripp's post above about some other guys that have signed similar deals.

Plus it sounds like there was a bit of a bidding war for TC, so I really don't think $3M is that unreasonable. MB was making that much last year as the #3.

Re: Todd Collins Re-Ups

Here's another from NFL.com

Skins keep Collins: The Washington Redskins resigned quarterback Todd Collins to a three-year, $9 million contract that included a $3 million signing bonus. The 36-year-old veteran backup replaced an injured Jason Campbell in Washington's Week 14 win over Chicago and then started the last three games of the regular season, helping the Redskins earn a wild-card berth. With Campbell coming back from a knee injury, it was considered important for new head coach Jim Zorn to retain the veteran backup.
