Again, there is no way in hell Marcus Monk is going to get picked in the third round, and instead of using a pick on an unknown QB in the 7th round, why not take a risk on Dennis Dixon or Colt Brennan. |

Well...I got my info here WalterFootball.com: 2008 Wide Receiver Rankings They have him projected 4th, and they say his stock is rising. And as for Brennan or Dixon, I'd rather take Dixon. I'll re-edit again tomorrow after hearing more opinions. |
Re: My first mock draft
monk isn't going in the 3rd round... holy crap. he wasn't even a full timer in college, they ran most of the time,he only did 9 reps at the combine... and a 3rd rounder?
nuts. he's value in the 7th, maybe 6th, higher than that and its just hype. |
Re: My first mock draft
Mario Urrutia, Louisville
Height: 6-5. Weight: 232. Projected 40 Time: 4.56. Combine 40 Time: 4.58. Pro Day 40 Time: 4.53. Vertical: 35. Broad . Projected Round: 7. Sluggish at the combine. No surprise here. The Louisville coaching staff removed Mario Urrutia from the game after multiple unsportsmanlike penalties. The home crowd booed Urrutia every time he caught the ball. Urrutia had seven receptions, 142 yards and two scores against Middle Tennessee State. However, what the box score doesn't show is at least two drops, including one easy touchdown catch. Great size. Caught 53 passes for 929 yards and 6 touchdowns in 2006. Needs to improve his 40 time to be a first-round lock.
first round lock? do they ever update their info, or just the rankings? seems like a terrible site for information when they don't even care enough to keep it current. I mean, they still have fred davis and bennet as the #1 and #2 TEs and keller as a round 2-3 pick. pollack in round 3? talk about not caring. |

nuts. he's value in the 7th, maybe 6th, higher than that and its just hype.
I hope you're right. He seems to me like an interesting project, but spending a third round on is like playing russian roulette with a six shooter that has 5 bullets. If we take him in the 7th round then it's more like one bullet int he six shotoer. If we're going to go with guys from Arkansas I would much rather take Felton, if he's available in the 5th round. Draft tek currently has him going in the early 5th so it's definately a possibility. However as of today my guess is the Redskins will draft something like this. 1st - Merling/Harvey/Jackson - DE - Clemson/Florida/USC - Blache has been promised a Defensive Lineman early in the draft. And a guy like Merling has the ability to play DT and DE which is just what the Redskins were looking for since it would hypothetically allow them to move Merling inside on passing downs as well as allow Wilson to resume his role as an edge rusher. 2nd - Jordy Nelson - WR -Kansas State - This pick is a combination of Synder's desire to add a big WR and Cerrato's no WR with a 1st round grade. Plus the chance that he's projected to be an early 3rd round pick. I know some people are agaisnt this pick but personally I don't mind it at all anymore. I mean the guys a hard worker, had great production as a senior, and a strong showing at the Senior Bowl. 3rd - Mike McGlynn - G - Pitt - Most versitle Offensive Lineman in the draft. Also regarded as a pretty solid prospect that could end up as a 3rd round steal. Just don't expect him to become Steve Hutchinson. 3rd Comp - Someone from NC State - Either DaMario Pressley who has the ability to penetrate as a 3 technique or Dejuan Morgan, who is a relatively highly regarded FS that would allow Landry to move to SS if Reed goes down or allow Reed to stay at SS if god forbid Landry goes down. Ironically Andre Woodson could also be availble at this point in the draft, and personally if they could get a value pick like Andre Woodson with this comp pick then I wouldn't mind it so much, granted he was once regarded as a Top 5 pick. Other Picks that could be considered are as follows. Tyllel Johnson - SS - Arkansas St - A highly regarded small school prospect John David Booty - QB - USC - Chad Pennington type that could be effective in a WCO. Kendall Langford - DE/DT - Hampton - Versatile small school prospect Josh Johnson - QB - San Diego State - It's very possible that Smootsmacks BOY could get a look here. 5th Round - According to Drafttek (which is what I'm using to evaluate these picks) both Wallace Gilbery and Marcus Monk will still be available. It's also possible that a road grader like Felton could fall to this spot. If the Skins use the comp pick on a QB then I could easily see them going with Gillbery. Erik Ainge is also projected to be available at this point in the draft. Personally I wouldn't mind taking Ainge either because like Woodson, he was once considered a possible 1st Round Pick. 6th Round - Apparently someone's been reading my blog because the original pick here is Dennis Dixon (QB Oregon). If the Skins are serious about a QB and have gone this far without picking one then Dixon could very well be the pick. Chris McDuffie (OG Clemson) is also a possibility. Rudoph Hardie (DE Howard) might also be available with this pick. Addarious Bowman (WR Oklahoma State) would also be a great value pick at this point. Also if the Skins are looking for a backup FB then Jacob Hester (RB/FB LSU) could be a pretty good pick, considering that this is the 6th round and by no means a replacement for Sellers. Lionel Dotson (DT Arizona) is also projected to be availble so if the Redskisn still feel the need for a penetrating DT then this could very well be the pick. Also look for the Skins to take a look at Corey Lynch, the FS from Appalachian State. 7th Round - Well at this point there aren't a whole lot of players that I recognize. Wouldn't mind seeing Crummey (G Maryland) get a chance like Stephon Heyer got here last year, especially if we've only drafted one Offensive Lineman. Unlike Heyer Crummey seems to have a slightly higher probability of getting drafted even if it is only in the 7th round. Speaking of Maryland, Joey Haynos (TE Maryland) could also be a good pick here. Local kid with huge size. Just consider him the Anthony Mix of TE's. Also had a pretty good year last year for a 7th round TE with ~300 yards recieving. Spencer Larson was a productive ILB at Arizona so the Redskins could also consider taking him. Bernard Morris would be the best QB available in 7th round so if the Skin's haven't taken a QB yet then Morris could very well be the pick. Marcus Dixon (DE/DT Hamton) also looks like he could be available. |
Re: My first mock draft
I think Malcolm Kelly in the first round and trading up into the 2nd for Campbell or Balmer is a possibility.
What I would do though... 1st round: Merling or Balmer 2nd round: Chilo Rachal 3rd round: maybe Tony Hill? or McGlynn 3rd round: Paul Hubbard 5th round: Antwaun Molden and then just fill out the roster I still really like Cason, but I don't know where he fits for us in the grand scheme of our draft |

Re: My first mock draft
Alright everyone, I completed my third mock. I moved Monk to 7th and added Dixon as 5th round QB. Also I added an OLB in 7th round as I agree with 30gut that there needs to be someone to replace rocky if he is injured.
Marcus Monk's stock is rising very fast. He had a great pro day. As of now he is projected to go the 4th round, but we have no 4th rounder.
Ok I can see how getting the two Atlanta picks is the problem. I'll add my second mock to the post later today(This one will have no trading picks). Oh and Beasts of the NFC East. This is for depth and the fact that Vinny says the offensive line is an issue to focus on. They really can't keep healthy.
You are correct sir. Some even have him as high as a late 3rd. Not sure that will happen with his injury issue, but I am all for going after him if we don't go after Limas Sweed. |
Re: My first mock draft
I don't understand why we would get a Gaurd in the 1st round, generally when you get a gaurd that high, they start immediately, and we have solid gaurds already.

In our cae it's a combination of best player available, an aging offensive line that has had problems with injuries, the fact that we rely heavily on the running game and the offensive line as a whole is just as important as the running back, and the versatility to play guard and tackle. |

There are many receivers available that are faster and had better college production and don't have recurring knee issues. Other than the last name, why are people so in love with this guy? |
Re: My first mock draft
I don't think we will have a chance at Limas Sweed, but he's good value at pick # 51.
