Re: Report: Chiefs DE Allen Talking with Vikings, Bucs
Allen is a good player, but two first round draft picks is too much.

Re: Report: Chiefs DE Allen Talking with Vikings, Bucs
The Vikings spent a first round pick on a DE two-consecutive years to get Kenichi Udeze and Erasmus James. While neither is a "bust", they're obviously not taking care of business if the Vikings are willing to give up a 1st & 3rd pick to get Allen.
What I'm getting at is draft picks (especially in the 20's) are never a sure thing. Jared Allen IS. There is no debate he is one of the best in the league, and is only 25. So, our options are to give up a 1st and 3rd (or 2nd) to get a guaranteed stud, or we could take our chances on a Merling or Thomas or the like (who only had 1 standout season in college - fluke?). I'm all for building through the draft, but it's a lot like gambling. You can bet on the favorite and know that you're likely going to win, or you can bet on the longshot and if it works if you're a genious and if it doesn't (and this is a likely possibility) then you've wasted your money. I like the sure thing. Granted, I'm not saying we should drink silly juice and put forth a rediculously one-sided offer (a la the Champ Bailey trade), but if we can make sense of it, let's do it. |

Even signing a FA is risky. Not even they are sure things. Remember Bryce Paup. One hit wonder. |
Re: Report: Chiefs DE Allen Talking with Vikings, Bucs
Well Udeze has leukemia and James has had 3 knee surgeries in the past year so neither should be counted for 2008, at least. Trading draft picks for Jared Allen probably won't be too difficult. It's shelling out the $80+ million over 6 years that he reportedly wants.

Mr. SmootSmack, (As usual) your points are very valid - and indisputable. I agree that we shouldn't overpay/trade for the guy. Hopefully, Danny has figured that out by now, right?! Respectfully, THE ADE |

Yeah... those guys were a real force for us last year when CP and line pushed them all over the field!
Can you imagine the D-line in Minnesota if they get him?!?! Talk about a force. I'd love him in the B&G but I don't see it happening now.
|

When are we going to find our own superstars instead of buying everyone elses? Now, I believe is the time. |

Remember Bryce Paup. One hit wonder.
If he is a system guy then it's because he's a 4-3 system guy instead of a 3-4. In fact the only way a team can screw up Jared Allen is if they come up to him before a game and say, "OK Jared, we're going to line you up at Safety today." That is the only way you can make Jared Allen a bust at this point. |

Ok, you have faith in Jarred Allen. I can respect that. Now based on what you just said about JA, Javon Kearse shold be just as crappy this upcomming season as he has been in Philadelphia. On the other hand if Kearse performs at the level that he did in his first stint in Tennessee, will it or will it not be the system and not the player? |

Oh yeah, almost forgot about Javon Kearse. Well in that case can I blame that on injuries, because he never played 16 games *regular season* for the Eagles since he got there in 2004? In fact he never played 16 regular season games in a season since 2001. |

His lack of production may have been caused by injuries others may believe that it was due to the system. First, he has to come back and produce. If he does then, it will be the system and not the injuries IMO. If he doesn't produce then I will chalk it up to age and injuries.

Re: Report: Chiefs DE Allen Talking with Vikings, Bucs
"Grandpa" Kearse is like 31 or something and has had his knees replaced 6 times (guess). Not a fair comparison to Jared Allen.
To Dirtbag's comment: I think you could also make Jared Allen a bust if you made him the punter. Although he may surprise... |

Is it the same system as when he left? Just cause it's the same team it doesn't mean they've changed systems. Does anyone know? Is it worth the effort to figure out? Probably not... |

Yes, it is the same system for the most part. Bye the way it was a fair comparison because Kearse didn't turn 31 or something until recently. When he left the Titans, much like JA now, he was considered one of the best DEs in the league. |
Re: Report: Chiefs DE Allen Talking with Vikings, Bucs
Well apparently the Chiefs are asking for a 1st and 2nd (the Vikings supposedly have offered a 1st and 3rd)
Why is KC putting him on the market? That doesn't make sense to get rid of a guy who is a young premier pass rusher. |
