Re: Vinny C. Discusses the Draft
Took some time this afternoon to speak on Doc Walker's show.
SportsTalk 980 - Washington, DC Here are some highlights -Statistically, history shows you get more production/Pro Bowls out of 2nd round receivers than 1st round (don't know exactly where he got this from)
Hmmm ... let's check it out in the past 10 drafts ... 1st Round:

1997 - No PB WR
1998 - Randy Moss
1999 - Torry Holt, David Boston (yes he made a PB)
2000 - No PB WR
2001 - Santana Moss, Reggie Wayne
2002 - Javon Walker
2003 - Andre Johnson
2004 - Larry Fitzgerald, Roy Williams
2005 - Braylon Edwards
2006 - no PB WR
2007 - no PB WR
2nd Round:

1997 - no PB WR
1998 - no PB WR
1999 - no PB WR
2000 - no PB WR
2001 - Chad Johnson, Chris Chambers
2002 - no PB WR
2003 - Anquan Boldin
2004 - no PB WR
2005 - no PB WR
2006 - no PB WR
2007 - no PB WR
Well, looks like the 1st round comes out ahead 10-3 ... maybe he meant in the modern era ......... or maybe he was just making it up .... |

You could have at least spent to the time to get a decent quotation. Like Twain's, "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics." I'm not trying to be compelling, just answering SmootSmack's question about "not sure where he got this" and the answer is he made it up because it actually isn't true. Doesn't mean Thomas and Kelly will fail, that was not the point I was making, just saying in the past ten years more Pro Bowls do not come out of the 2nd round as Cerrato said. I was curious, so I looked it up, before looking I thought he might be correct. |

I agree with you 100%. I was not saying your stats were wrong, just that anyone in the world, inlcuding Cerrato, could just make stats up off the tops of their heads and say its true and sound very intelligent. You on the other hand, went out and got stats on paper that proved Vinny wrong. My post was an attempt to sound intelligent, just like Cerrato did thus making my aforementioned point. |
