I think it's preseason, and to point this out yet again, we scored the most points in preseason history when Spurrier started his tenure here, and we came out like lame ducks.
I'm not saying Campbell will fall into that catagory, just saying, I'm waiting before I make any judgement cause it doesn't matter right now.
Spurrier also played starters for a large portion of the preseason games to run up the score.

I think it absolutely does matter right now. How he's transitioning is very important, and the only real gague of that is live action. And so far JC looks very sharp. I'm not saying he's gonna throw 35 TDs or have 4000 yards, but he's obviously picking up Zorn's offense well.
You had to remind me. I had kinda like, blacked the entire Spurrier thing from memory but now, I vividly remember being super hyped that presesaon and getting peed on by SS.
We may not be scoring as many points as we did in the preseason of 2002, but I think this is a much better team. I don't remember specifically but weren't we giving up like 30+ points a game back then.

More importantly, that team was very undisciplined. I think they averaged 10+ penalties per game. We are averaging around 4 or 5 now.

Re: Jason Campbell and the WCO

I do not think the Spurrier analogy is any good. That was an untested and, eventually, unsuited system for the NFL. And you have to admit (go back and look, if that's possible) that this team looks very different from the Spurrier teams, even in preseason. This team is executing a proven pro system very efficiently for preseason. And we certainly have not seen lots of the playbook. In his presser today, Zorn said he didn't call any "shots" in this game, though he meant to going in. So it's not that he's been trying to hit them and missing. We'll see them on down the line. I, for one, am very interested to see JC hit a few deep ones. That part of his arsenal should be a strength, but he's been off in his pro career so far. My guess is Zorn will help with that too.

Also, we saw very little TE stuff this game. With Cooley and Davis out there, we're going to get some great production from the TE.

As for JC, he looks very confident and comfortable in this system with these coaches. In the Saunders offense, he often looked out of sync. Not so thus far. And the spirit of the team on offense is excellent. Whereas I am not sure that some folks EVER bought into the Saunders system, I don't know of anyone bitching about Zorn's WC + Buges run game.

Cautiously optimistic at this point. It's early, but it feels right so far.

Guys, point is, IT'S PRESEASON! Have we not learned our lesson at all?

I am not comparing this preseason to Spurrier's, even though it appears like it, I am not saying Campbell is the 2nd coming of Wuerffel...all I am saying is, what is happening right now, means nothing. The cowboys lost every game in preseason and went on to win the super bowl. If I recall the Patriots lost almost all, or all of their preseason games and went on to win the super bowl. Just like the Lions have had excellent preseason outputs and sucked in the regular season, and I use Spurrier's Skins team as an example of a team that looked GREAT in preseason and sucked during the regular season. So it doesn't make a LICK of difference if he's looking good now...hundreds of players have looked good in preseason, that in no way means it translates into good performance for the season. Hopefully in this case, it will...but when you're facing players that probably know they have made the team (1st stringers) and are just trying to get into game shape, you can't take the results seriously yet.

I think Jason looks good out there. But the main thing is he's being consistent. 5-5 in the hall of fame game and 7-10 last night. It seems like he's becoming more and more comfortable every time I see him play.

Simply put, you're wrong. Sure as far as the record book is concerned it means nothing. But we've got a young QB on the verge of his most important season in a new complex offense and a new HC. How the first team is picking it up and executing DOES mean something. Whether we win or lose doesn't matter, but if we looked totally inept on both sides of the ball the last two weeks, would you be singing the same tune? Methinks you'd be concerned about a poor transition...

Re: Jason Campbell and the WCO

I think unlike our last two years, this preseason when our starters have played against the opponents starters, our guys have looked good in two games. I must say that this makes me optimistic about our team, granted that this is not the regular season and it is likely that our team and the opponent are not playing at full speed (i.e.: Portis playing carefully in the last game).

I've been saying this over and over, but I think a big different this year is Zorn's focus on Jason Campbell. Zorn is working on developing JC, something that didn't happen under Gibbs. Now I don't want to make it sound as JC is a rookie QB developing, but I just don't think there was much emphasis on developing him under Gibbs and Saunders. JC's play as QB will determine how well the team will do, and I think Zorn knows this hence his focus on the position.

Campbell has looked good in two games, and I'm glad to see our 1st team doing well against the opponent's 1st team. One thing that I hope the team can overcome this year is their inability to close out games. We won't be able to see this until the regular season. However, I like what I've see from our starters, and I hope that carries over to the regular season.
He just continues to impress me with the way he's picking up this offense. He's getting the ball out quick and he's been very accurate. Not much to hate so far from JC and the WCO that's for sure! So far it's looking like a great fit... what do you think?
So far so good. But it's pre season and nobody is game planning. Let's see what happens on Sept. 4th.

If Campbell can toss 3 TDs against the Giants, the Saints and Cardinals definately won't stand in his way.

Re: Jason Campbell and the WCO

One thing I noticed is there is no shotgun and JC only takes 3 and 5 step drops. I know some of the WC offenses use shotgun. I wonder if we're planning on using it? I don't think Seattle does.

Good point.

The preseason isn't completely worthless. It's good for seeing how the team does in situational type stuff. Converting 3rd downs, goal line and short yardage, and just the overall flow of things. Right now this doesn't look like an offense in transition, the basic execution seems to be strong.

Re: Jason Campbell and the WCO

I'll tell you what I like the most. JC is not "Zorn's guy" but Zorn is clearly a big fan and coaching him up as much as possible. It'd be real easy, and common-place, for a new coach to come in and give it the old college try for a few weeks before writing off a young QB he didn't draft. Zorn hasn't done that. That should mean a lot. Zorn seems excited about JC and that makes me VERY happy.

Re: Jason Campbell and the WCO

I really want to see JC play the whole first half in one of these games. JZ probably scripts the first 10-15 plays. After that, Campbell is over on the sideline with a baseball cap on. I really want to see how he handles himself when he doesn't know what play JZ is calling ahead of time. With that being said, everything looks to be coming together nicely :FIREdevil HAIL!

good point. but he definitely looks alot more comfortable. i guess with the quick reads, it takes alot of the guess work out of where the safety is
