Re: We need sacks!!
Sure we may not have alot of sacks, but I would like to see an under-apprieciated stat be kept for balls batted down, and by whom. I think that our D would have that stat on lock-down.
But yes, more sacks would be great. To me, for some time now, it appears that the whole batting down passes thing is a product of our coaches teaching this technique. It looks like the D-line has some sort of internal clock that they have. They have only a certain amount of seconds to get the qb, and if they don't they are more focused on getting hands up to block passes.
Phillip Daniels was great using this technique. |
Re: We need sacks!!
Yes. Daniels is one of the best at knocking down passes and playing against the run. I know he wants to come back next year. He said he would help keep the other team in third and long and then Taylor could come in and do his thing. When he retires I'd like to see the Redskins keep him on as an assistant coach on the line.
every pass they bAT down is just as good as a sack for this fan.
Better since batted passes can turn into defensive TD's (right Pete Kendall?). |
Re: We need sacks!!
I would like to see a little more pressure on the QB. However, it seems like GB defensive scheme is working. I think, as the season goes on GB will do more blissing with CH and DL.

Re: We need sacks!!
It was funny. When I was watching the game today. I kept yelling at the screen get'em. Hoping they would sack the QB...lol

Re: We need sacks!!
I am oh so tired of not getting to the QB and not forcing turnovers. It's really bad. I know points allowed is ultimately the most important defensive stat, but sacks and turnovers are momentum/emotional type plays that can swing games, especially at home when it fires up the crowd that much more. We have to find a way to get better. Never settle, keep improving, right?

Agreed. A few defensive touchdowns, or just more turnovers, would help to fix the problem where we don't put other people away and scores remain tight. |
Re: We need sacks!!
I have been saying this for years its the differance between being dominant and making it through the playoffs or just being a good team. WE NEED MORE SACKS!!!! and right now we are lame when it comes to getting to the QB.Yes batting a ball down is good but its not a sack you lose a down not yards and a down. But I still think our D is good and are team better than I expected but a good passrush would make alot of our games MUCH easier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Because if we cant get to the QB now just waite for the playoffs when the teams are better. If your happy with things now your not thinking of the BIG PICTURE and the future.

Re: We need sacks!!
We play the run first which means we suffer in the sacks department. If you watch AC you'll see he plays containment first. We also don't blitz much.

Not really sure why we just abandoned blitzing. We play "stay at home" style defense game in and game out. It works out fine in the points department, but again, sacks and turnovers are game changers and create those big momentum swings. We have a good enough secondary to blitz a little more. |
Re: We need sacks!!
I will give it to Blatche. Who would think our D would be dominating and playing as great as it has thus far this season. But I am at the boiling point on one point of our offense. THE D-LINE sniffing the QB.
Before the season started I was ridiculed by posters and mods alike. But now hopefully they understand my concerns with the D-line. But first I have to give credit to the Defense. They ahve played awesome this year. But their only weak spot is sacking the QB. We are currently ranked 27th in sacks. If we get a better pass rush our defense will be that much better and come playoff time we need to show up and be able to totally shut down average QBs and neutralize good ones. JT has made some impressive defensive plays eventhoughhe has been hurt when he has been int he game he hasn't had sacks. its like him and carter always get pushed to the outside and the QB has a nice pocket to throw. I just think if we start getting more pressure on the QBs some of these games wont be as close and it will minimalize big plays. Which we haven't given up a lot of so imagine. But by all accounts this shows the strength of our DBs who are playing light out. Beside Torrence..lol
We simply don't have any pass rushers and this is something that needs to be addressed during the off season. There is nothing we can do about it in the middle of the season. |

You know, alot of us wanted to address this in the draft. Now I'm not sure who we would have ended up selecting or how they are doing at this point, but I still I wish it could've been addressed. Before the draft we had several discussions about whether a D-lineman or a tall WR was more important for this team going forward. I remember arguing then that our WR's were sound, and that depth could be better addressed in the FA, and I think that has proven true. Im not saying Kelly or Thomas will never amount to anything, I hope they do, but I don't think we ever needed more targets. Our position players are skilled. We need Lineman like crazy on both sides of the ball. Our O-line can runblock but the Passblocking is still a little suspect. And our D-line is a joke when Pass-rushing. I agree that if anything holds us back this year it will be the lack of a passrush. The good news is this team is only a few key players away from being elite IMO. |

James would have had a sack yesterday, but flagrantly being held by an OL that resulted in a penalty against the Lions. |
