Re: California Tortilla.
Qdoba is about all we have around here. And it sucks. My wife is from Monterrey, Mexico and every time we go down there, I gain 10 pounds.
See I've been in baja fresh in manassas and it was so bright and sterile and smelled bad that I lost my appetite. I can't even eat their takeour, and I really like chipotle and moes. Never tried qdobas or cali tortilla.
But if you're fortunate enough to live close to gainesville VA, hit up El Tia's in the shopping center around the corner from target. It faces linton hall rd. Some absolute grat food. Oh and Jalisco's in Front Royal is awesome too. They give you this coleslaw I eat with my chips. Great stuff.
Is Jalisco's the place on that sharp curve? I've heard it's pretty good, but have never been. I have also heard that the new Mexican place up in the new Lowe's shopping center may be the best Mexican place around now. I've always loved El Agave in Warrenton, but folks have been telling me that new place in FR is better. |
BD I agree Chipoltes sucks! IT is just a big burriott of rice! Gross!
I stopped getting burritos there a while ago. I usually get hard shell tacos now, if I get Chipotle. Unfortunately in Frederick, the closest Cal Tor is 10-15 minutes away from me, where the Chipotle is 2 minutes max. No Baja Fresh in Frederick :( |

Yeah Jalisco's is around that curve... I like their food. The atmosphere is a little old, but the food is definitely good. They have a chicken breast smothered in cheese and chorizo that is awesome, and they have this quesedilla that has chicken strips, shrimp, bacon, cheese, guacamole, brocoli, tomato, onions, and a few other things in it that one person cant finish that is freaking amazing. What mexican joint in what lowe's shopping center? The new stuff accross 66? |

There is a big shopping center there now. Lowe's, Super Walmart, Cracker Barrel, etc. There is a little strip of shops in front of the Lowe's. The Mexican place is in there. I can't remember the name off hand. |

Chipotle is owned by the McDonalds corp. Maybe that can help explain why they're so bad? I like their quesadillas though. Little trivia for ya: Chiptole's refried beans are refried in bacon drippings. Eat up! |

Ill have to check it out. I went to the Ledo pizza accross the street next to the target on sunday for lunch. They only had 1 server. We waited over an hour for food and were lucky the counter girl brought us some drinks. We had our pizzas before other people in our party got their appetizers. 2 sandwiches never came and our waitress totally disappeared for an hour. When we went to leave I noticed her in the back talking on her cell phone laughing. All I could do not to go off. |

Downtown Frederick is a great place to swing through on a nice weekend and get hammered drunk. Before you head downtown, I highly recommend taking the Saturday Brewery Tour at Flying Dog Brewery. Doors open at 1:30, with tours at 2 and 3pm. A $5 pint glass gets you all you can drink while you're there. When I went, there were several groups that didn't take the tour, just drank the beer. Best places to sit outside would be Brewer's Alley, La Paz Mexican Restaurant, and The Greene Turtle. La Paz and Greene Turtle are next door to each other, and Brewer's Alley is a few blocks up. Across the alley is Griff's Landing, while they do have outdoor seating, it's smaller than the other places, but just as quaint. Don't eat at La Paz...food's awful, but they have the best outdoor patio in downtown. Best places to get hammered include those 4 outdoor places plus Canal Bar and Grill (also near La Paz and Greene Turtle) and Olde Town Tavern (3 blocks north of Brewer's, usually have good bands playing Friday and Saturday night). If you are into hookah, Mirage Cafe & Grill is a block south of Olde Town... If you are into Italian, go see my buddy Cooper at Il Porto at the corner of Market and South, on the south end of downtown. Great food at good prices. I recommend the white pizza, fried zucchini and anything off their entree menu. |

Let me ask the people at school and I'll get back to you. I know there's a hookah bar in Hagerstown (bout 20 minutes from Frederick) that the college kids rave about... Dunno if you're into that sort of thing. Hookah and drinking. Apparently it's what all the cool kids do. |
Re: California Tortilla.
Thanks BD. Ill actually hit u up when I get that way. Judging by your profile pic in that kilt we'd probly get along pretty well.
I don't know about a hookah. I'm a cigar guy. I've done a hookah, but with pot, not tobacco. |
Re: California Tortilla.
That picture is about 4 years old...I'm married with a kid and another on the way. I don't get that "wild" anymore. But yeah, let me know when you come to town...
