Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs Seahawks)
Sellars really had a very good game..would have been a great game if not for the drop. He was flat out, leveling people out there.
It was nice to see Kelly out there. Gotta keep the D's honest w/ Moss on the other side. Is it just me or does Andre Carter look really slow out there? I really don't understand why we're paying him so much money. He's a good guy, and a very hard worker, but talent wise, mediocre at best. Our secondary is pretty good. |

Those kind of drops are one of the reasons our offense is unable to get it done in the red zone. Those mistakes against the Giants and we are in for a real long day. On the bright side.....I was pleased to see Campbell fairly mobile and pick up some yards when he had the opportunity. And as far as Moss's left hand Jab goes....REALLY lucky his ass did not get tossed outta the game! |
Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs Seahawks)
Sellers' drop was very disappointing, he's got to catch that. It's also very indicative of how things have gone this year. It just seems like there's always a play or two each game that prevents us from opening up a nice lead.

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs Seahawks)
I noticed on Betts runs when he hits the whole and is fighting for more yards he tends to turn his back to try and make a push. This leaves him open to getting hit as he is now more up right pushing backwards with his legs. He did this twice yesterday and is probably the reason he fumbled the ball. He needs to lower his head and drive the pile instead of trying to push the pile. If you don't understand what I'm talking about think of a person pushing a car with their butt against the car.

My guess is his knee still isn't 100% so he's not comfortable driving forward on it after contact. |
Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs Seahawks)
Sellers -- not Sellars, people.
As for his drop, yeah it was disappointing, but I don't like the play call in that situation. 3rd and inches, I'd like to see a trap or dive. I love the play they called, just not in that situation. I'd call it on 3rd and 2 or 3 -- not 3rd and inches. Gonna have to give Zorn a little smackdown on that one. |

(Especially after Sellers had been asking for the ball so much) Normally Sellers makes that and scores. |

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs Seahawks)
My point is that we can convert on 3rd and inches in so many different ways. Why put it on Sellers to make that catch? He's a blocking fullback. We were in the red zone, and only had inches to go. There are so many other plays that would have had a higher probability of success in that situation. If it was 2nd down, then okay. I would have rather seen a dive, trap or sneak -- all of which have a higher likelihood of success. Bad play call, IMO, considering it cost us 4 points.

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs Seahawks)
I thought the call to Sellers on 3rd and inches was a good call. Did you expect it? Guess what, the defense did'nt either. The pass was a little high but he should have caught it.

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs Seahawks)
If Campbell had gotten off a decent pass, Sellers would have caught it with no problem. I like Zorn on that particular call because he isn't predictable. Remember when we used to lose every close game, but this season we're winning most of them? Starting with Norv and on up until Zorn, we could dominate a game but lose it on a stupid play. Even Joe Gibbs looked lost on Sundays, and I'm a big Joe Gibbs fan. Zorn knows what's going on and has us winning.

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs Seahawks)
From Zorn's point of view - Why not put it in Sellers hands he had caught everything thrown his way, he has decent hands and scored our only touchdown last week against Dallas. Again, if it works great call, and the timing was good too, cuz everyone had sold out to stopping Portis.

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs Seahawks)
If you only have a couple inches to go, predictability shouldn't be an issue. If the defense knows you're running, and you still can't get a few inches, then you've got a problem. Considering we abused them all day long running the football, we should have just continued with it and run it again for the 1st. Instead, we decide to put the success of the play into the hands of our worst receiver. Dumb.

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs Seahawks)
Sellers is not a bad receiver, maybe our worst, but he certainly has his share of TD's and receptions. Maybe GTripp or some other StatMeister could tell us how many drops Sellers has, but I really doubt it is a high percentage of what is thrown at him. And I can't think of any since Zorn started using him.

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs Seahawks)
I didn't mind the call. It was open, we just didn't execute it. He should have caught it.
If we had ran down the middle and gotten stuffed then people would be crying for some other play. |
