Re: Dirtbag's 2009 Offseason FAQ

This may sound nutty... but what about UFA QB Jeff Garcia?

I don't think he'll want to stay in football as a backup, but he DEFINITELY knows the West Coast Offense and had a solid year again this year.

Todd Collins knew Al Saunders offense inside and out due to being it in for so long. In preseason he didn't look sharp at all in Zorn's WCO... just throwing Garcia out there...

Ok then just curious then. Campbell will be #1 QB , will Colt move to 2 and we let Collins go or what? anyone have any thoughts or heard any rumors on how this will come out?

Why would we get rid of Collins? Tis time last year half of us wanted him to be our permanent starter. What has he done since that would make us cut him? And for the rcord don't just say Colt Brennan. Whether Collins stays has little to do with CB.

I had heard a little birdie say that Senneca Wallace could be available this offseason but that only seems to be nothing more then an internet rumor but if it came down to it I would rather have Wallace then Collins. Still the position of our bottom two Quarterbacks should at least be based on preseason preformance similar to the way Collins was able to pass Brunell on the depth chart following the 2007 preseason. Though last year during preseason I wasn't to impressed with Collins even though his numbers tell me he didn't do nearly as bad as I thought he did.
Oh yes, Mr. Dirtbag I'm Redskin Warrior from the Warpath forum quick two part question sir

What are the odds that Todd Collins will be a Redskin next year? If so will Todd Collins beat Campbell out for his job in 2009?
I'd say close to 90% but then again I'm just a fan like anyone else. Basically so far the front office has shown no desire to part with Collins in fact I take their silence as a way of them saying we're not going to do anything at the QB position this year short of Peyton Manning getting released and saying that he wants to be a Redskin even if it means taking the vet min. However in the meantime all I know is the team plans on training Campbell this offseason as the starting QB meaning he'll probably get about 75% of the attention including time with the coaches and practice reps.

Now Redskin Warrior if you'll please post again as your 666 post count is making me very uncomfortable.
Really well done. I wonder how many people on here are going to debate your faq without realizing the joke's on them...
If my history on this forum is any indication then more then a handful will not understand the parts meant to be humorous. Smootsmack will atest to this.
I really want Aaron Curry. If he projects to spots 5-10 after the combine I'd want to trade up for him. He is the most complete LB I have ever seen.
I'm actually really excited to see the scouts break him down this offseason. As like most fans I don't really pay attention to college players outside of a few big names that are drilled into my head before the season. For the most part the few guys I followed this college season where Knowshawn Moreno, Matt Stafford, Michael Johnson, Taylor Mays, Rey Maluga, Fila Mora, Sam Bradford, Percy Harvin, Michael Crabtree, Tim Tebow etc. In fact most of the information I find about prospects come's in the two or three months leading up to the draft when the scouting reports become more detailed.

As far as Aaron Curry goes I found it hillarious that in scouts inc profile of him they gave him a rating of 3 for character (1 being the best) which I found ironic not only considering that Wake Forest is anal about bringing in players with high character but the reason they cited seemed extremely minor. Also found it funny that BJ Raji got a 4 for taking a swing at a player during a game. Apparently missing one class is a step below taking a swing at someone

so out of the guys you said we should sign via free agency who would be your top 2 to get?

I'm not sure I'm set on a top 2 but I'm sold on getting Jordan Gross. As for a second free agent, I think I'll play close to the vest and hope the team goes after Karlos Dansby as getting him would allow us to focus on DT as well as a Guard and Center in the draft. The funny thing is apparently Michael Lombardi has heard the team covets Gross and they'll open their wallets wide to bring him to Washington.

Also JLC claims the team is looking for a homerun hitter at tailback. If thats the case then hopefully they could get Sproles in at a reasonable price but a nice cheap alternative might be JJ Arrington as Arrington, like most Running Backs, Arrington struggled behind Arizona's line. At one point the guy was considered the answer at tailback for Arizona and was a highly regarded prospect coming out of college.

If you guys remember Thomas Jones was a bust untill he got to a team with a decent line in Tampa. Afterwards he was able to truly break out while he was in his second season with the Bears so Arrington might be a pretty intriguing choice for a tailback with breakaway speed.

Comment: Arrington is a good-sized running back with great workout numbers. Unfortunately, his numbers don't translate to the football field. He has excellent straight-line speed and can accelerate through the hole with a good burst. He can stop and reverse field quickly. He runs with balance and body control. His vision is questionable because he will leave his blockers behind or run up his blocker's backs at times. He does not appear to see past the first level very well. He wants to try and bounce things to the outside way too often and needs to run a lot more aggressively on inside runs. He has trouble getting around the corner before the pursuit and often looks like he does not trust his own physical tools. He catches the ball well enough, but does not run great routes. If the ball is thrown outside of his frame or he has to adjust to the ball, he will struggle making the catch. He is not instinctive when he stays in for pass pro and needs to work on his blocking. Arrington is getting to the stage of his career where he needs to start showing more because James is getting on in years and needs someone who can spell him more often
------------------------------------------------------------------
The only second day guy that caught my eye at tailback int his years draft is Devin Moore from Wyoming who currently grades right now as a late third early fourth round prospect. The part that caught my eye about him was his explosiveness rating. Remember a rating of 1 means exceptional in Scouts grading system.
Explosiveness: 1
Quick around the corner, hits the second level quickly and difficult to catch from behind
In fact Moore was the only guy I could find that Scouts said would be difficult to catch from behind. Most of the other profiles are filled with guys that are fast but still lack a second gear.
