Re: Dallas Cowboys release safety Roy Williams
Well, I was comparing Rocky's weight to him. Rocky is listed as 238 lbs, Roy Williams is listed as 221 lbs.
gotcha, he'd need 17lbs to be at rockys weight, and rocky is a bit undersized as it is. Most 4-3 OLBs are above 240. Williams could bulk up maybe 10lbs in the offseason, but he'd lose alot of that weight as the season progressed. I know you were just throwing out an idea, and its certainly intriguing, but it would be a huge gamble for the skins or any team to take - they certainly wouldnt want to invest alot of money in him until they saw how he performed at a new position. I honestly hope we sign someone like Crowell, bring Washington and Matt Sinclair back, and then pick up a LB in the 3rd round. that should be more than enough to solidify our LB position: McIntosh, Fletcher, Washginton, Blades, Sinclair, Crowell, and a rookie would make for a pretty deep group. |

It just hit me though that Williams is only 28 years old. For some reason I thought he was older than that (i.e. like John Lynch old). |
Re: Dallas Cowboys release safety Roy Williams
I wouldn't be surprised if the 49ers pick him up, he's from the SF Bay area and the Niners need S help.

Re: Dallas Cowboys release safety Roy Williams
Roy Williams is a true strong safety, which is almost like a dying breed in today's nfl. People always said he was weak in coverage, but I always felt like he was weak in deep coverage.
A lot of TEs burned him too, but if you let him play the flats the way strong safeties used to play, he was good at hitting recievers across the middle & shutting down screens and dump offs. He just couldnt' cover man to man, and strong safeties these days are expected to do that at times due to the number of wr's and pass catching te's there are. As for him playing here, we're stacked at safety & I can't see him bulking up enough to be a true LB. Maybe some team will sign him to use him as a nickel OLB & run stopping safety. He's not getting big $ anywhere, that's for sure. |
Re: Dallas Cowboys release safety Roy Williams
I think the Giants will get him. They don't have enough safties and d-linemen yet.
From what Pat Kirwan is saying, the Cowboys have almost no money to free up. All of the base money on their contracts is really really low and turned into bonuses and such.
That sounds familiar. |

according to their fan site, they have about $14million cap space. Now i doubt their experts are as good as ours but if you use that ballpark, I would think they have enough flexibility if they want it. |
Re: Dallas Cowboys release safety Roy Williams
This is good for the Cowpukes and bad for all the NFC East as w/o Roy back there policing the middle of the field, the gaping holes won't be very big any longer :-).

Re: Dallas Cowboys release safety Roy Williams
Roy is a jaw breaker against the run and in goalline defense but I don't see how he would fit in here. We need a big linebacker not another safety.

Re: Dallas Cowboys release safety Roy Williams
Old Roy. poor man lost a step. Gonna miss all the "horse collar" tackels.

Re: Dallas Cowboys release safety Roy Williams
It could be fun watching Dallas this year.
Glad we won't have to play the dirtiest player in the NFL twice a year now, unless Philly gets him to (try to) replace Dawkins. |
Re: Dallas Cowboys release safety Roy Williams
So...Springs to Dallas to replace Roy Williams at Safety?

Id put it at 95% thats exactly what happens. Springs has probably wanted to play in Dallas his whole life. |

Why does Philly make a lot of their moves? Why do they appear to be wanting Kevin Kolb to lead their team into the future? :D |
